Long Term Parking in the Cold

My Hot Pepper Red Mav is performing very good , 40mpg ! i live in south alberta , in the fall i drive to Great Falls MT, and park my vehicle in a parking lot for 3 months at a time where temps can get quite cold there , i go back home and return first part of Jan for another 3 months ! Question one is how are the security features in the the Mav for auto theft ?? Question two is what will the drive battery do ?? drain completely ?? the small solar panel on the dash sounds like it might work , but will it only charge the start battery ??

The main drive battery under the truck won't be a problem; possibly the rear underseat battery will be, particularly if it is a Motorcraft battery. Have a remote handheld charger in the truck just in case. Personally I believe all vehicles should have them; why wait for a jump from a kind stranger or AAA when you can get up and running immediately. Just be sure to know where the + and - terminals are and you'll be set.

Will disconnecting the 12 volt battery help? However, you will loose the security features and you will need to use the key to unlock it.

But at least a thief won't be able to start it easily or quickly, so there, I gave you back your security.
