I've been having nothing but issues with my wireless charging pad and can't tell if it's the charger itself or if it's my phone. I have a Samsung Galaxy A01 and have attempted numerous times to wirelessly charge it to no avail. I've taken the case off thinking that was the problem but even still no luck. I still have the rubber tray for the pad on top but I don't think that has anything to do with it. Plus, it was put in there from the factory for a reason, so you can still use it with the tray on top with no reception issues. I want to say it may have something to do with my phone itself, considering it's a very cheap humdrum phone that has been discontinued within the last year or so. The whole point of getting the Lariat luxury package was to charge my phone wirelessly. Maybe there's a setting I don't know about but I'm not sure what's really going on.

I know for iPhone you need a special case to use wireless charging, do you have a protective case on your phone?

I do and I've taken it off to try to charge and still no luck. That's why I'm confused.

You need a phone with built-in wireless charging. I don't think the A01 has this. This is only on higher level Samsung phones like the S or Note series.

I appreciate your offer but I discovered what the problem is. It's not the wireless charging pad itself. It's my phone. I don't have a phone with built-in wireless charging in order for me to use the pad. Eventually, I'll have to update my phone if I so choose to use that feature. Not a big deal. But I appreciate you looking for me.

I've tried 3 different brands of wireless charging pads. They all do the same thing--hold steady, but don't charge up the phone. I think it may be that if you have a wireless carplay adapter running (as I do), the charging pad just doesn't provide enough juice.

Unfortunately, I discovered that my phone is the culprit. It is not compatible with wireless charging. It's an older phone that has been discontinued. So if I really want to use the charging pad, I'll have to upgrade my phone. But I'm in no rush. I just plug it in with my cord so I can use my Android Auto which is what I'd rather have anyway.

I agree. I feel its underpowered too.

Sorry its not related to the OPs post, but at least he got his answer.

THAT was the whole reason for getting the Lariat luxury package?!?! Dude, there are better, WAY cheaper ways to make that happen. I'm thinking a wireless charging pad next to your bed at night would be more convenient and much MUCH cheaper than the luxury package. :)

(I'm just joking, I know some people need their phones on constantly during the day. Just having a little fun. Hope you don't mind.)

What case do you have on your phone? This can cause problems with QI charging....

It’s not the case. Mine is extremely thin, and it has no problems on the wireless charging pad I have in my home. Unless it’s an OtterBox defender, most cases are compatible with wireless charging pads these days.

You may already know all this but… Standard charging rates for phones wired up are like 2.1amps at 5volts (if the wall charger / transformer / battery pack is rated for that) = about 10 watts, or “quick charging” versions can charge compatible phones with significantly more juice than that. Qi wireless charging will have energy losses so it will never have the same charging rate as plugged in. But maybe look into both what your charging pads AND the transformer bricks that they are plugged into are actually outputting. Any such device should have their ratings listed in nearly illegible tiny font lol. There are actually specific quick charge types of Qi pads that some samsung and iphone models can utilize I think, that can actually use 10 to 15 watts wirelessly depending on the compatible devices. Might take some googling to see what all the real specs are. Otherwise, standard Qi charging rate only does 5 watts (original) or 7.5 watts (newer)… I think.

Yup. These Qi pads do fine as long as they are not “in use”—ie CarPlay and the additional load of the wireless adapter. Just too much to handle it. I’m not sure the Apple Magsafe charger would be any better. I’ll just plug in when it gets low on a longer trip.
