I have owned varying amounts of Alcoa stock for 40+ years. Dollar cost buying and selling based on % of return. I came out excellent when Alcoa split into two companies. Then later Arconic spun off the portion that became Howmet Aerospace which makes aircraft parts and was unhappy when the Arconic portion was purchased for $30/sh (big profit but did not roll it into APO stock) by Apollo Investments. China is controlling an ever increasing portion of mining and production. Having gone so far as producing items not subject to tariffs, exporting then remelting for other uses. Big downside is I sold Howmet around $41/share which has tripled in value and is currently thought to be undervalued by 29%. (Dang). As far as cheap electricity goes, Iceland is sitting on much more than a gold mine. When it's glaciers melt sea level will rise 30+ feet I think. Millions of years ago about 40% of Texas was in the gulf.It requires an abundance of cheap electrical power to process bauxite in an arc furnace and produce aluminum metal.
