Is your hybrid engine loud?

I have a 24 Lariat hybrid. On acceleration sometimes the engine is quiet and sometimes it is really loud. Seems to be louder when fully warmed up. Has anyone else noticed this?

My engine is sometimes loud, sometimes fairly quiet (for an ICE). I just ignore it, put it in Eco mode and use my gas pedal to keep it in EV mode as much as possible. No one behind me notices, just another Old Fart in his truck!

I will say, the air conditioner is surprisingly loud.

Location doesn't help this either, it is in a very similar place to the "noise maker" just the opposite side. It's... very clear when the A/C is on

Engine noise when accelerating is highly dependent on RPM which is highly dependent on battery state of charge. Sometimes normal acceleration will be at 1800 RPM, sometimes it will be at 2500 RPM. These naturally sound very different.

You are stating that your friends XLT is much quieter, but my question is - how many miles have you spent driving the other truck? If you did not drive more than 20-30 miles it is unlikely that you spent enough time in the seat to get an accurate reflection of the variety of RPMs these will be at during normal acceleration.

The first acceleration/start of the day is quite often much quieter... unless your High Voltage battery is at a low state-of-charge. Then it paradoxically is often the loudest acceleration of the day.

I have driven his XLT several times and ridden in it a lot. It is quieter during acceleration for sure. I guess different trucks just sound different. I will quit worrying about it and just enjoy my maverick. It is a great truck. Thanks for all the input.

My compressor was replaced once already due to being excessively loud. The replacement is louder.....

If the AC is on max you can not stand outside of the truck and have a conversation, it is obscenely loud. Supposedly it is getting replaced, again.

My hybrid's ICE is loud on cold startup but quiets down in about 15 seconds when the idle drops. But that's been the case with every other ICE car I've ever owned. The Atkinson cycle engine sounds like a lawn mower at times, which I find funny.

The A/C condenser fan is loud. The first time I remote started my truck at my house, I thought something was wrong as I could hear the condenser fan from inside the house. Nope, it's just loud.

Try remote starting the truck with the A/C on and listen to it spin up while standing in front.
