Does your Hybrid Maverick engine revs up real high on down hill rides!?

My hybrid has not done that yet. I suggest you take it to your dealership. It sounds like your idle is getting stuck. May have to lubricate it or it needs adjusting. Good luck.
My Maverick has not done this yet either ( I fixed your post for you). But I live in flat land ( Houston) and have not had it in the mountains yet. Once in steeper territory it WILL have the engine rev up to provide braking going down steeper grades. Does this once the HV battery is at full charge and cannot accept energy from the regeneration system. So, it simply has the wheels turn the engine over and that friction and drag provides braking. The Ford Cmax hybrid I owned would do this.

I had to drive over the entire eastern half of the Appalachian mountain range 3 times last night on US Route 48. Should have been once, but I'm an idiot and forgot my laptop. Long consistent downhills with runaway truck ramps and curves galore.

At the top, I start slow and feather the throttle a bit to reduce charge. Then, before I get to the tight curves, I give it some brake dust to further burn off energy. Braking moderately definitely helps limit regen. Inevitably, the battery will fill up on the way down. Then begins the revving. The ICE air pump. It keeps speed under control. There is nothing left for the software to do with the energy unless you speed up or apply brakes and make some dust. It's a totally normal part of the Hybrid programming to transform the energy.

law of conservation of energy:
"Energy can neither be created nor destroyed; rather, it can only be transformed or transferred from one form to another."

I have found this to happen OP. I change the drive type to slippery and it helps a lot.

I Noticed this on mine (XLT hybrid) about a month ago. I got it on 9/20/23. At first the rev sound going down long-steep grades was concerning but figured it was related to the battery regeneration. This forum confirmed it. Runs great and am pleased with its performance.

Good to hear, I guess. This just happened to me yesterday, driving into Death Valley of all places. We had driven down steeper grades, but on one of the last, all of a sudden, the engine was revving super high. I'm aware of what L modes sound like on regenerative downhill modes on our Prius and it's nothing like the RPMs I heard yesterday. I think it's alarming because there's no way to see the RPMs on the truck to verify that it's not in the red zone? I guess I'll take everyone's word for it. I do wish there was a way to turn it off.

I guess I didn't hear it that loud on other steep grades because the battery wasn't fully charged? Or why that time and not others?

You nailed it.

It revs when the battery is full.
It is governed to a safe speed. And remember the wheels are not connected to the engine.

I just got a 2024 Maverick AWD 2.0. I've noticed that when coming to a stop, and the transmission downshifting into 1st gear, I get this spike in rpms that makes the needle jump .5-1 rpms, and does not sound natural. The severity of the engine rev is based on how quickly the stop is, hence a long and prolonged slowdown gets less noticeable engine rev. Only have about 2K on the truck so far, and would hate for this to be an issue right off the bat.

Trying to see if anyone has experienced or if perhaps mentioned in another thread.

Glad I found this very interesting thread. Mine just did it for the first time over the weekend on a very long downhill with a runaway truck ramp. Thought the engine was going to blow. Good to hear that it’s normal behavior.
