Is Ford spying on us? If so, WHY?

Took my new USB drive out of the Mav and plugged it into my computer and found an extra file had been added to the drive by the system in the Mav. The name of the file was basically the VIN of Mav. Why is Ford doing this. I've never seen anything like this before. Kind of creepy, if you ask me.

Probably something to do with the "indexing"? Remembering where you left of next time you start the truck?

This could be literally anything, lazy programming, supporting some process for the dealers/service centers etc, to something possibly dealing with tracking.

Considering Ford already has a GPS/cell unit and is reporting details back about you to them, this is likely something benign.

The way you describe it, it seems it would be a good way to log on a plug in device all the vehicles serviced and what was done. Eg. On a techs machine who has performed driveway updates there would be a log with VIN for each vehicle serviced that day.

Got a call last week from a local auto shop wanting to service my new vehicle, free wash for bringing it by.
Few days earlier i signed up for the Ford Visa.

My guess is that you can post the data into their support system so that they can track what updates you need/are missing.

Probably automatic diagnostic info for a tech. The drive is inserted, and data automatically copied and then read from another computer.

Probably a good idea to line the inside of your windows with aluminum foil. And don't forget to use lead foil on the moonroof, if you have one!
