No way on a full electric. Run heater, lights and tow and see how far you go. I'll keep my 2022 Hybrid XL that gets 47mpg (I also do have a 2024 on order, a 2023 rollover). I still enjoy driving my 1957 Chevy with the 454ci dual quad tunnel ram that gets 6mpg!

That's worse than my Mustang gets (city), and it's running 15# of boost on E85! I get 6.8mpg city on 85% alcohol.

I just drove from Denver to Marin. Avg speed was 85 with the air conditioning on. Try that in an EV

The largest natural reserve of lithium known to mankind is in.... wait for it.... California.

South end: full of lithium.
North end: full of lithium.
Along the Oregon/California/Idaho/Nevada borders.
Sparsely populated areas, where there will be little opposition (always some) to mining.

Kinda like the oil we have but Are Forbidden to drill for.
I wonder what method of obtaining these two energy sources would have the largest impact on the environment?

And if we did mine lithium, would we turn around and sell our reserves to other countries? Kinda like we did with our strategic oil reserves.

I drove San Francisco to Disneyland in Anaheim (400 miles) more than once in an EV with air conditioner on and in the same amount of time as my gasoline only family member.

You have choices. I'm all about choices. But your statement is weak.

Volkswagen did a shit ton.

Part of their renumeration/penalty for dieselgate.

And I''ll be buggered. About half of the chargers are "free". Call it subsidized if you want. But heck, I got my share. How about you?

Over 6 years I drove about 60,000 electric miles.

10,000 miles a year and I paid about $200 a year for electric "fuel".

At those "gotcha" tourist spots, it's expensive to charge. Avoiding those, I chose to charge for free, most of the time from (somebody else's) solar panels at work, shops, malls, movie theaters, colleges, and CalTrans rest areas.

It's a concept called destination charging. And/or opportunity charging.

I have a 1958 home with 1958 wiring.
In 6 years I never ever charged at home. So my EV had zero effect on my power bill. 😎

Nice to know one state got the majority of VW’s penalty money. I assume that the rest of us who pay federal taxes picked up the remainder, or most of it?

Why wouldn't it?

We have most of the people. And most of the EV's.

And it sounds like Alabama and Arkansas doesn't want it anyways.

No chance of ordering a total EV. Current infrastructure and slow response from California government on creating more access to charging stations is one reason. Another is poor mileage from EV vs, my 23 XLT Hybrid. Getting over 500 miles per tank vs. 325+ for EV.

I'm getting the Lariat hybrid. I'd drop it like a hot rock for a Maverick Lariat EV.

Update... Living with a Maverick Hybrid for last 4 months... Completely charmed and smitten by the Maverick hybrid. At this point I would go with a PHEV vs an EV. If Ford offers a PHEV in the future, with a minimum of 50 miles on battery, we will be a two Maverick family.

Update: Ordered a 2023 Cyber Orange Hybrid Lariat Lux Maverick, 9/20/22. So hopefully at some point in 2023 we will be a two Maverick family. If in 2024 Ford does a PHEV Maverick we will order one and sell/trade in the 2022 Maverick.

Not BS in the slightest.

We have the highest taxes around.
Pays for shared infrastructure the individuals like you and I can't afford.

Theres usually a day or two or three per year in the Spring when heating and cooling needs are at the absolute minimum that the state's power grid is 100% fossil fuel free.

That's 38 Million people getting renewable electricity at the same time.
