I've had my '22 Hot Pepper Red Maverick Lariat hybrid loaded with all the bells and whistles, plus various accessories I've added, going up for sale soon. Right now, it has less than 31K. I've never had a problem with it other than the recalls, all of which have been fixed.
At the time I purchased the Maverick, I was building, selling, and delivering raised bed garden boxes. After going through two major lower back surgeries and one very serious neck surgery in '24 where vertebrae were fused together, then having a reverse right shoulder replacement at the end of '24, and now facing further back surgery, I physically can't do what I used to do
So my wife and I have been making changes to better out transportation needs. We sold our '22 hybrid Escape that was her daily driver to and from work. She's driving the Maverick now, and it's not her favorite vehicle. I might drive only once or twice a week in town, and sometimes that's even a challenge. We decided to look for a compact or mid-sized SUV and let the Maverick go.
Buy a Subaru Forrest my GF loves her 2025 Subaru - you should get a great trade for the Maverick good luck

We are going to look at a few Toyota RAV4’s today. We’ve always had very good luck with other Toyota vehicles we’ve had in the past. They are rated very high in Consumer Reports. She likes hatchbacks.
Ron,
Rav4 or CR-V are very solid choice's. If you have the choice Rav4, Corolla cross or CR-V all come in hybrid. All are within a few mpg of each other.
Two reasons I sold my Chevy Volts.
I have spinal Arthritis and stenosis.
The Volt being low to the ground was literally painful to get in and out of. And I wanted something with a small bed.
I wantef to make sure the Maverick was the right vehicle for me. I rented one for 2 days just make sure I was comfortable getting in and out of it.
Good Luck,
GB
If possible Rent A CR-V, RAV4 for a few days.

The RAV4's are nice, we have a new fleet of them at work- Just don't get the base model :)

I wish you all the best with your back issue and hope you recover well. I totally understand your transportation conundrum. 2 months ago, I woke up and quickly realized I had suffered a stroke in my sleep. My truck has been parked in the garage ever since. My wife has a 10-year-old Chevy Cruze and I have told her she should give the truck chance if I decide I can never drive again. She is very apprehensive because she knows how much I love the truck, and she is a tad clumsy with curbs etc. I have assured her that if it turns out I cannot drive again I would except that the truck is a very useful vehicle (we have kayaks etc) and let go!

We have a 2016 RAV 4 Hybrid and a 2016 Hybrid Camry in the household, both are great vehicles, never have issues and get great MPG. I am sure the new ones are even better. Best wishes with your new vehicle!

Our options are open. Anyone have an opinion on a CR-V?
I personally wouldn't drive either one, but if I had to pick, I'd definitely take the Honda. (Since you asked...)

Not the same guy, but my Mom drives a CR-V and she loves it. Bought it a few years ago (I think it's a 2021, but I could be wrong) off the lot and she hasn't had any issues with it at all. Brings it in for her regular oil changes and maintenance and that's about it. She's not into cars at all, but it's the favorite car she's even owned.

I have no opinion on the RAV4 though.

Sorry to hear about your troubles too. Sending you my best in health (and finding a new vehicle)!

I own a 2025 Rav4 XSE hybrid that I bought last year. For me the car is excellent. Great mpg and
even driving in ECO has plenty of power. So far I have had zero problems. I highly recommend.
The only problem was waiting a month for my Rav4 to arrive. They are in high demand and the
dealers sell them as fast as they arrive.

My only nit-pick is that the center console has two cup holders. Makes it difficult when I go on a
fast food run for the family. In contrast my 2003 Tacoma had 4 cup holders.

One thing to consider is a spare tire. Some hybrids do not include a spare. The Corolla Cross hybrid and CR-V hybrid don't include a spare. My Rav4 hybrid includes a spare tire.

Owning a vehicle with or without a spare is a personal choice. For myself I consider a spare tire
mandatory.

Best car I've ever had... And we've had two of them. We bought the Maverick to be a 1 car (plus an electric golf cart we can drive on roads) family as it seemed to satisfy both of us.

How that feels? I mean, I don't wanna to be rude, but you didn't notice any prior signs

No, I had no idea… I had retired a month before and I was looking forward to the freedom to go and do so many things. I have regained most of my balance so I can go out in the neighbourhood as I wish but I rely on my wife to drive me places.

There are signs I might be getting my sight back but right now it seems to be a waiting game. It all has to do with how much damage was done in the occipital lobe.

I am now managing all the contributing health variables to minimize any reoccurrence!

Sorry to hear about your back issues. When shopping for a new vehicle (regardless of make, model etc). Make sure that the seating fits you, your WIFE and Your Back. Different trim lines in the same model may have different seats, cushions, fabric/leather, heat, lumbar, power. Also the ease of getting in and out. Lifted No, my grandsons Civic NOO!!.
Also think of storage in your new vehicle, if you have it may need a walker, rollator etc, can it be carried inside the vehicle?
