In my '23 XLT hybrid, I've noticed that the traction motor system sometimes powers down when I'm sitting at a stop light for more than a few seconds. I haven't been able to determine the conditions under which this happens, but it appears to be a design feature to save power. The system powers back up when I switch from brake to accelerator, but does not do this smoothly. There is always a lurch when this happens. Could this be what you experienced?

I’m wondering if the CVT transmission played a part in this time you noticed a slight roll back. I fee like there’s a moment of delay in a CVT especially on a hill it would be more noticeable. just a thought.

I park on an incline and back in every time-

Today, when I gave it some throttle in reverse it hesitated then lurched backwards...

Kinda close to having an accident!

Has anyone heard of this happening???

Are you saying you have tried L button while in reverse? Or are you suggesting someone try it?

It never occurred to me to press the L button in reverse, since this is impossible in a non-hybrid.
It has been some time since I have done it. In driveway on flat when I did. Don't know how low actually works but assume amps must be increased to simulate lower gear and it can be controlled better. I have not driven up ramps either but low does a good 1 inch vertical drop forward and backwards into my garage easier. Suggesting to try it and see what you think.

In hindsight, pretty sure I pressed the brake hard enough to activate the brake hold while backing up the incline-

Then when I gently gave it some throttle, it hesitated and kinda "sprung"
Backwards when the brake hold let go...

I've backed up that incline over and over with the brake hold on, but usually don't press the brake hard enough to engage the brake hold function.

Are you driving with both feet? That would eliminate the issue. Also given that the drivers footwell is so large, I have found that sometimes I think my foot is pushing the pedal but it's only on the very bottom of it and is just pivoting, then I push it more and suddenly I'm at significant throttle.

Otherwise if you aren't driving a manual you should be using both feet. It will decrease your lap times, no doubt about it.

I read reverse runs of the electric system only. Is this true? Not many inclines to back into in my city.

Nice avatar-

I had a 302 in mine, put on a high rise intake, 4 barrel, headers...

Yup, my first maverick was a tire roaster, and I would have been all ears if you knew how to make it faster...

I kinda drive like grandpa in my new one, not worried about going fast anymore-

Yeah I was just rambling into racing advice like my dad would have lol. My old Maverick had a built up AFR headed 306. With a Demon race carb it would rev well past the 6750 rpm limiter I put on it!

But yeah my dad would say to drive with both feet and that way the brake foot is always there in case the car does something unexpected.

Ok yea seems like it has been the brake hold. very interesting the brake hold thing, I’ve never used this feature and never owned a automatic and nevertheless used brake hold before. My Maverick will be a few firsts for me. Lol Interesting the things on new cars and trucks.
