I park on an incline and back in every time-

Today, when I gave it some throttle in reverse it hesitated then lurched backwards...

Kinda close to having an accident!

Has anyone heard of this happening???

You must be in reverse to back up, so seems right.

Steve
The problem was, it just sat there for a couple of seconds then lurched backwards, when normally it backs up the incline smoothly-

I notice sort of a "brake hold" on an incline when going forward, I'll have to back into the driveway and see if it still does it. If I tap on the gas it breaks free. I don't think brake hold is on, but the Hybrid might do that on an incline automatically.

Sounds like the "hill hold assist" was involved on this one. I believe this is an option to turn off in the vehicle settings. Mine did a similar thing when pulling it up on ramps to change the oil a few weeks ago. I was two footing it, not sure what impact this had on the situation. In this situation instant torque along with the delay of brake-by-wire are not your friend.

You might have turned the auto hold feature on, pretty easy to do, all you'd have to do is bump your elbow on the center console in the right place while getting in or out. That's the only time I've ever felt the maverick act lurchy. Could be something else, but what you're describing sounds exactly how the auto hold feature acts if you're not expecting it.

Basically, auto hold would feel like you tapping the gas, and nothing happens, then pressing the gas a little harder, and it kinda jumps forwards or backwards. I've heard if you keep a steady, but light pressure on the accelerator, it disengages auto hold more smoothly, but I haven't tried it.

If you have an engaged electric parking brake and do not manually release it, some throttle may be required for the computer to disengage it.

It's the hill assist, not auto hold nor parking brake. Any incline, forwards or backwards (though I find more sensitive backwards) it does that -- one gets used to it. It does this every time (which is every time I park) I back into my driveway.

I believe all the former posts are on the right track.

Nothing is wrong.

This is one of those "features" meant to be helpful. I have seen this behavior quite a few times. We don't have to like it. But it is part of the vehicle's design that most of us were not used to.

Key is awareness. Now that you know, it's just an annoyance more than anything.

One time I had mine up on ramps.
Since a stationary vehicle has a lot of inertia when I tried to back off the ramps same thing happened to me and the truck remained stationary and the ramps went flying. Scared my wife half to death. She came running out of the house after hearing crashing metal (ramps).

P.S. this may be a reason I don't change my own oil in the future. 🤔

Well, I have backed up the incline into my parking spot hundreds of times-

Only once have I had an issue...

But, I normally have the brake hold on, and may have hit the brake hard enough to activate it-

I didn't realize it even came on in reverse, but it does make sense...

Thanks for all the replies, much appreciated!!!

I recently pulled up onto ramps to inspect, and change oil/filter-

But I was sure to turn off the brake hold feature, and didn't have any problems...

Maybe I should get into the same habit, when I'm backing into my parking spot???

I use 2x8's staggered 4 inches 4 high so I am elevated on a level surface and the staggering makes for an easier time on and off of them
