If by speed control you mean the cruise control, on that I will say this. Once I figured out how to use the cruise control I really grew to love it on longer highway trips. I set my speed to match the car up front and keep a good distance. With the control tab you can add or subtract speed in 1 mph increments. No need to touch brake or gas.

I've only had my hybrid since Nov and barely have 1000 miles on her. My read out on the dash is 36.9 mpg which I am very happy with. I drive very little in town and most of my trips are around 10 miles each. With a 14 gallon tank, you were running on fumes a few times. I often wonder if I run completely out of gas, will the truck still run on battery power to get me to a station?
Good question! I'm thinking 'no' but would like to say 'yes'...

I've had my hybrid for a full year now and have been recording my fill up data each tankful. In that time I've put on 23378.4 miles and used 639.975 gallons of gas for an overall 36.5 MPG at an average speed of 41.2 MPH. Over that time I had a few longer trips from NY to MI which had higher speeds than my normal driving.

Calculating the average speed for a tankful allows me to put together a chart like this. I don't recall seeing this done for the Maverick before but I find it interesting!

Winter time has been the big effect for me. I have only had my 23 since Mid August 2023 and up till it got snow cold I was it the 40 ish range. Now in winter its down into the 32 to 35 mpg range .
If you don't realize how much cold weather affects your mpg, reset the trip odo to see what you get for the first 5-10 miles on a cold morning.

An EB Escape that I had before my Mav that usually showed upper 20s on the instaneous mpg indication once I'm up to speed on a level road will show about half of that for the first 5 miles until everything is fully warmed up in temps down near the single digits. If that's all the further you're going, the loss is significant.

Nice! Thanks for that. I think most of us have unique driving patterns but this is interesting and helpful.

Assuming the dash reading is reasonably accurate, I, a light foot, Get 45-49 around town. 44-45 at 65. Probably close to 44 over the 4k miles we have on it. Driving a long drive to reach a family member close to passing , at a bit over 70, it dropped to the upper thirties. Average computed range is a little over 600. The range after a fill up calculates to 550+, but once it gets below 1/2 tank, the computed range gradually increases to beyond 600. Totally happy with this truck, one of the little joys in my life. I love the fuel efficiency.
My dash calculator was off by 5%. It was optimistic. You can go into engineering mode on the display and change a parameter. There are several threads on MTC and the internet that explain how to do it.

You will get about 3 miles farther is all. Already been done by others on this site. I'd advise trusting this info. and not running truck dry just to find out.

I'm with you. 8100 miles on my 2022 hybrid. Averaging 45.5mpg. I am always in ECO mode and always very easy on the gas pedal. It's also pretty flat terrain where I live here in North Carolina. I am not sure how others (who are averaging less than 40mpg) are driving their Mavs, but I'll guess they accelerating harder and ignoring the little tricks to maximize mpg.

Search this blog, someone did run out of gas on purpose to see how far the Mav would go on the battery.

Have had my Mav for 15 months, has 4000 miles on it, and have averaged 41.9 mpg. Live in upstate South Carolina, hardly any freeway miles, mostly around town with short bursts of 50-60 mph, and mostly in ECO mode.

Keep in mind: speed is a secondary factor. In the city, most energy loss is from braking, which the hybrid largely recovers. On the highway, the primary energy loss is from friction, which can't be recovered. Thats why hybrids tend to get better mileage in the city than on the highway. The speed at which you are driving on the highway has some effect, as seen in the excellent spreadsheet. But not braking has a bigger effect.

Winter time has been the big effect for me. I have only had my 23 since Mid August 2023 and up till it got snow cold I was it the 40 ish range. Now in winter its down into the 32 to 35 mpg range .
Refineries switch to winter-blend fuel in the fall, which evaporates more easily at low temperatures to aid in starting. It also helps the engine run more smoothly in frigid weather. Unfortunately, winter-blend gasoline contains less energy than summer-blend gas, reducing mileage.

I've only had my hybrid XLT since last April. Your data looks very much like mine, except my average speed (in mountains) is 59mph on a 4-lane commuting 39 miles each way. I also drive about 20K per year. I am averaging 42mpg so far measured (not by the guess-o-meter on the dashboard). In my case- temperature seems tp make the biggest difference. In the summer (cooling) and winter (heating) it costs about 2mpg.

So as you are adjusting gas usage by actual pump gallons (which can not be correct depending on pump calibration) are you adjusting miles traveled as reported or have you measured actual traveled miles?
