If you are really worried about the possibility of a Hybrid fire, get this>>https://fireisolator.com/car-fire-blankets/

that is your opinion. Nowadays, NEWS sources are the biggest problem. Stop blaming government when the problem is disinformation. We are the government, get involved if you don't like it.

but I struggle to understand why an EV would be lower risk than a hybrid.
The complete lack of gasoline comes to mind . . .

Interesting, I imagine there are some number of Ford mechanics that wouldn't buy a Maverick Hybrid even after the all the safety scrutiny it has been under, yet you did.
I've retired, albeit a few years earlier than usual. I think it was my engineering fluid mechanics professor, himself near retirement in the early 80s, who related *his* experience of the near-retired professors of his undergrad days. (so I guess this is third-hand curmudgeonry!).

Anyway, they grew up in an era where the engineering margin was 300-400%, while those new fangled airplane

Laptop and other lithium batteries are noramlly shipped at 70% charge, and that's safe enough for the 5-nines guarantee that is required for airline shipments. The hybrid drivetrain battery is normally kept between 25% and 50% charged, giving even lower odds. That alone dramatically lowers the odds of a fire. The small battery size and its location also limits the severity of possible damage, as does the hard-shell casing restricting oxygen intake. Statistics show that you have better odds of a gasoline fire or a 12V battery fire in the garage than a powertrain battery fire on a Mav. If you're that scared, you should not be putting any vehicle (gas, hybrid or electric) in your garage or anywhere near your house.

I would love to be a solid-state BEV marketer around 2030 or maybe 2035. My commercial would be simple...
  1. Show a clip of a gasoline vehicle inferno in progress.
  2. Overlay a caption: "170,000 gasoline vehicles catch fire each year in the USA".
  3. Show a graphic of my company's solid-state BEV.
  4. Superimpose the graphic: "Our car is fireproof".
  5. Put a photo of some cute little kids in the back seat.
  6. Then a split screen with the question, "Which one should your children ride?".
