I hopped in my 2025 Maverick this morning and went to start the truck, I pumped the pedal as I turned the key. At the same time my foot slipped off the gas pedal about half way down. I quickly tried to pump it again, so I essentially double pumped the gas pedal about half way down each time. Crazy morning, in a hurry and tired. Anyway, the truck shut down with the Hybrid/electric system failure light shining on the dash. Everything was locked up.

I waited a few minutes, turned the key, same light came on, truck was shut down.

Again, I waited a minute or so, turned the key, all back to normal and I went to work.

Somehow, I tripped something in the system by what I initially did in starting it. Thought I would share this in case anyone else has a similar issue. Wait a few and it will apparently clear itself.

Why would you pump the gas pedal?

You don't need to pump the gas on a fuel injected vehicle. Your foot shouldn't be anywhere near the accelerator when you start it. Heck, even on older non-manual vehicles you shouldn't do that.

On the Maverick Hybrid, you press the accelerator pedal down after turning the key to start the engine. This is done in instances when you want to warm the engine quicker. In my case, to warm the vehicle a little quicker before heading to work.

Sorry you guys thought I was that ignorant to actually think I needed to pump the pedal to start a hybrid.......too funny!

And to further clarify, it was early, I was tired and I am used to starting my 1973 Mach 1 with a cranky 351 Cleveland that likes lots of pedal pumping before starting.

Do you have a link to where you got the information about pressing the gas pedal?
I found this. Nothing referencing the accelerator.

I mean, you said in your original post that you pumped the pedal WHILE you turned the key.

But, like, the truck can handle all that stuff on its own. If you're talking about warming up the engine, it's better to let the truck do that while in motion or to switch to sport mode. If you're talking about running the heat, that will start running the engine all on its own without your interference.

A quick and easy way to warm up the engine before a trip is to just press the accelerator down.

Putting it in sport mode will do nothing as far as sitting in the driveway.

If you are like me, and you live close to the highway, it is probably better to let the engine run a minute or two, verses just jumping in and immediately accelerating to 70 mph.

Also, after an oil change, it is good to start the engine and let it idle to check for leaks.

The hybrid engine will start and stop by itself. When that happens depends on your drive mode, your driving style, and if your asking for cabin heat. Just let it do it's thing.

After the vehicle has started. Again, you said you were hitting the gas pedal while starting the truck, not after starting the truck.

Putting it in sport mode will do nothing as far as sitting in the driveway.
Correct. However it will help warm up the engine faster after you get into motion.

If you are like me, and you live close to the highway, it is probably better to let the engine run a minute or two, verses just jumping in and immediately accelerating to 70 mph.
Switch to sport mode. By the time you get onto the highway the engine will be warmed up enough.

This is a fuel injected engine, stop treating it like you have a carb.

Also, after an oil change, it is good to start the engine and let it idle to check for leaks.
It's a Hybrid. You're only going to change the oil once a year. Twice a year if you drive a lot. Your original post doesn't mention oil changes at all, nor would it be a "regular" thing since, again, you're doing that every 10k miles with the Hybrid. Why did you even bring that up?

From your own post of the manual. The first sentence. When you START your vehicle, a green READY indicator light........
The part that you highlighted 'press the accelerator pedal' is done after the engine is started.
