It seems like a lot of people are concerned about replacement cost of the hybrid battery. I'd like to hear from actual owners of previous hybrid vehicles: did you have to replace the battery on your vehicle?

If you did, please reply to this thread below with the mileage and cost.

Thank you!

This is very uncommon. And warranty for a long time. Do you guys just enjoy stressing over nothing?

9 years on the C-Max message board and cannot recall (pun) anyone with issues. Now when you consider the 12v battery, that's a VERY different story.

I actually posted this in response to another thread where this topic was brought up. I believe *knock on wood* that this is not going to beat problem.

I've seen this a lot around here.... Seems to be battery anxiety.

🤷‍♂️ I bet batteries are a lot cheaper when it's time to replace...I should say, if it's time to replace. Do you actually know of any hybrid owners that have had to replace batteries?

Owned a Prius V for 6 years and never had a concern about the battery.

Looked into cost of replacement and was suprised that the cost was less than $2,400.
Some places much less. Cured any concerns I might have had.

Traded the prius in at just under 100,000 miles.

Had a 2013 Honda CRZ. The car had 260k when I wrecked it. Only repair other than regular stuff was a cat at 240K. Was not a real aggressive hybrid but got 42MPG. Wish I still had it. Battery was fine.

Traded our 2015 Cmax with 96K for the Maverick. One of the most trouble-free cars we've had. The other one was the 2016 phev Cmax we sold to buy the Maverick. Since retiring last September, we no longer needed 2 daily drivers...saved on insurance, taxes, and got more garage space. 😉

I only had my 2014 Fusion Hybrid 3 years before the Maverick but no issues with the HV battery. The 12V might have been original and was finally giving up the ghost before I traded it in.

The 2012 and older Fusion Hybrids when they got to 6-8 years old were programmed to reduce HV battery usage which decreased MPG. People have been able to reset the battery life with Forscan and restore full mileage. Ford must have been hewing cautious with the new lithium packs. I wasn't able to find anyone reporting needing to do it with the 2013 refresh/C-Max so they may have dropped it.

Toyota Prius 2013 - 250,000 miles. No battery replacement.
2017 Fusion Hybrid- 80,000 miles. No battery replacement.

This concern seems to be stemming from early 2000's marketing against Toyota and claiming it will be $10,000+ in a couple of years just to replace a battery.

Or if you drink Diet Coke you will have stomach cancer in no time.

Had to replace a battery section in a 2017 volt. Only 30k miles Was under warranty. Have seen quotes from dealers for up to 10 grand to do that repair on other forums. But a volt has a much bigger battery than a maverick. A volt is a plug in hybrid. I would think a maverick battery which is much smaller would be much cheaper.

Honda was pretty bad on their hybrid batteries dying around 2007-2010. Prius/Toyota battery replacements aren't entirely unheard of inside/outside of warranty which is in part why there's a market for doing so but has also made it fairly affordable. A few thousand isn't that out of scope compared to an engine or transmission replacement, after all.

I know a couple people who have had individual cells in their Prius battery replaced. About $500-600. And I think $2000-3000 for an entire battery replacement.

I rebuilt two Prius batteries put a used one in out of a wrecked vehicle and finally bought a rebuilt battery with a short warranty and sold the car at around 260k I think. I was not going to pay the 4-6k for the dealer to put a battery in. They all have started burning oil around 100,000 miles too. I attribute that to the ice starting and stopping. I’ve given my experience before when people have talked about keeping a hybrid for 15-20 years but no one listens. With that said I’ve got two Prius’s now and if Ford ever builds me a Maverick it will be a hybrid.
