Thanks that makes sense. That makes sense due to Ohio not being a CARB state, there's only 18 that have adopted the regulation.
Current CARB states:
California
Colorado
Connecticut
Delaware
District of Columbia
Maine
Maryland
Massachusetts
Minnesota
Nevada
New Jersey
New Mexico
New York
Oregon
Rhode Island
Vermont
Virginia
Washington
Yeah as I’ve discovered last month or so the 50 state emissions thing can be a minefield. Got into this as have been trying to help my daughter who lives in SoCal with a new vehicle. Lots of things in play. In 2019 during her move to SoCal she stayed with us awhile (live in Louisiana), helped her then get a 2019 Honda Fit purchased locally. I had the presence of mind to check the emissions label under the hood, it was CA certified, all looked good. She had no issues getting it registered in CA. At that time, never even thought about what the Manufacturers Statement of Origin (MSO) said about emissions.I don’t think Ford did us any favors by deleting that option off our sticker - and more importantly off of our VIN details.
My Ford Dealer & probably yours too is stocked full of vehicles with “50 State Emissions” designations. Except a handful of 2025 Mavericks that were built during the GPF shortage.
If we ever move to a CARB state or sell our cars someday to a buyer in a CARB state - there will be “Smog Check” issues under the current law.
Most (all?) manufacturers build all their cars with “50 State Emissions” to avoid the issues we may now face.
Great info - thanks. Made a copy for future reference!Yeah as I’ve discovered last month or so the 50 state emissions thing can be a minefield. Ford’s (Escape or Mav) are more expensive in CA than what I can find locally or in TX. It’s not in the $hundreds, it’s in the $thousands. I’ve looked at buying a ‘cheap’ new Ford here (prob. TX – much cheaper), transferring title to her in SoCal.
I’ve online eyeballed ’25 Mav XL hybrids both here (LA, TX) and in CA. Apart from cost, all window stickers I’ve looked at in all 3 states (with window sticker invoice dates – not build dates – ranging from Feb. 2025 through end-July 2025) all note 50 State Emissions – No Charge. Of course none I looked at had pics of the under-hood emissions label. I have asked about “what does the MSO say on emissions, please send me a pic of the under-hood emissions label?”. Sales types are dumbfounded by these questions, have yet to get a single reply.
I’ve also eyeballed ’25 Escapes (both 1.5L 3 cylinders and 2.5L hybrids). They can be found comparatively ‘cheap’ now – under $22k (MSRP less rebates/discounts, no dealer adds) for the 1.5L gassers, $25-26K for 2.5L hybrids in TX. In CA, $3-5k more for equivalent vehicles. Interestingly, on all window stickers I’ve looked at (LA, TX, and CA, invoice dates from March through Aug. 2025), none of them list 50 State Emissions – No Charge. Not even in CA. But those 1.5L or 2.5L Escapes that Galpin Ford in Pasadena is selling must be CA emissions compliant…even if the window sticker doesn’t state as such.
TX Ford dealers get quite a few out-of-state sales inquiries and it’s not uncommon to find the following disclaimer:

That’s a pretty bold statement. If I take it literally, if true means even that ’25 Mav hybrid on their lot with 50 State Emissions – No Charge on the window sticker doesn’t have an MSO that will pass CA registration muster. I don’t think that’s correct, but no way for me to prove/disprove. I’m not keen on driving ~500+ miles to check under the hood and finding it’s a bust. An to be told 'gee we don't have that MSO at this time, you'll get it when you buy it'.
So just some food for thought. Not sure that 50 States Emissions on the window sticker is the end-all for getting a CA registration.
From above attachment, I think looks like this:Decal under my hood has the California Designation as SULEV. That stands for Super Ultra Low Emissions Vehicle.
My fears that CA would consider my non “50 State Emissions” truck a “dirty little Maverick” were unfounded. Dude - I’m Super Ultra Awesomely clean!
In the recent past California was giving stickers for SULEV to drive solo in carpool lanes.![]()
I’m curious to see the decal on a Maverick that has a GPF…
Thanks for the Pictures with the GPF and without Mine was built in Jan 2025 and looks like the bottom picture underneath My Maverick.I was at a dealer in Oregon (CARB state) checking out Lobos, one had a GPF and the other didn't. Both window stickers have the 50 State Emissions option. The Lobo without the GPF had 4/23 on the window sticker and the Lobo with the GPF had 6/17.
Here are some pictures I took comparing with and without the gasoline particulate filter.

IIRC that's the secondary Cat in the picture the Primary Cat is up closer to the engine and You can't see it in the picture. The non gpf lobo looks like it doesnt even have a secondary cat? Buy it!
Correct. The secondary cat is still there - but is now covered by that fancy GPF housing. The primary cat is still up out of sight where it’s always been.IIRC that's the secondary Cat in the picture the Primary Cat is up closer to the engine and You can't see it in the picture.
Can a dealer communicate with Ford directly and ask if a specific VIN has a GPF?I was told that it would have the 50 State Emissions option on the window sticker. GPF was added to the Ecoboost vehicles with that label starting with anything built after 6/23/25.
