Take a look at the detail from a Maverick Monroney (window sticker). This one is for an XLT with the Ecoboost engine. Note the Equipment Group 300A (which is as I understand the standard package of equipment included on an XLT. You'll see here it shows that as $3,505. Below that is some other Optional equipment added to this particular vehicle. In the column at the right, it shows Total Options/Other with a subtotal of $4,720.00. This, added to the Base Price of $22,280 takes this vehicle to $27,000. Then add the $1,495 Destination and Delivery and the Total MSRP at the bottom is $28,495.00.
I thought since the Equipment Group is something not optional and a part of the base price it was not added in that column at the right but instead part of the Base Price? Do I misunderstand how this works?
Ford made a big deal out of how the base XL model was $19,995.00 and yet as these other things get tacked on the MSRP keeps creeping up. My local dealers are showing base XL models for $25K+. Ought not a base XL be simply that $19,995 + the $1,495 D&D charge = $21,490.00 ?? Do I need to be adding in the Equipment Group figures or should this be included? Can someone explain?
