Ok I am starting out on this and I have a few questions. Where do pins 21 & 22 on APIM go (highlighted pink on first page, Ctrl Mod - APIM # Alert 1 (D) & Ctrl Mod - APIM # Audio (D))?
Also do we do pin 31 on APIM (Microphone - Phone/Voice Control D)? I see it highlighted yellow but not on the list.
Finally, does anyone have the measurements for the aluminum brackets and where the holes should go? Has anyone designed a 3d print for it yet?
What did you end up doing with pins 21 and 22?

I double checked all those pins you mentioned and according to the schematics, those pins are there to ground the shields on the associated shielded pairs. No power or communication runs through those lines as far as I can tell.

Correct. I connected them just in case. No biggie.

Is it possible to do this upgrade with the Nav 12"+ APIM and keep the existing 8" that came with the XLT and then at a later time upgrade to 12" screen ?

I would ask the guys at CyanLabs that question as well.

Add another one to the done & dusted category. '24 XLT Hybrid.

Only outstanding issue is that android auto is not muting the audio when giving directions. Is this how it works with Sync4 or am I missing something in the programming maybe?

Here's some of the stuff I used that differs from what's been reported:

You can use this one for both the grey and black. Just trim off a tab for the gray. I used 2x of these.

I tried to use this longer version of this adapter but it got delivered to the wrong address. It *looks* like it will work without having to splice a lot of extra wire for length but since I never got it, it's impossible to tell.

A quality de-pinning tool is a must for this project. You also want to make sure your soldering skills are up to snuff and have shrink tubing and a good heat source/gun. Also make sure you give yourself plenty of length so you're not yanking on the harnesses. Color code your wires and make a wiring diagram/spreadsheet to keep track of the connections as you go.

I was able to mount the APIM using the OEM bracket. Bed the tabs a little and use a sheet metal screw with a body clip to secure the sides. Middle screw uses a nylon square nut.

I used a variation of the mounting that @Bobert47 used in this post:

I found the install a bit wobbly without all 3 screws securing the aluminum bar so I countersunk the left one and used a flat head cap screw to secure it. It will not interfere with the screen bracket if it sits flush. OEM screw in the center and a longer pan head on the right. I had some spacers in the junk drawer that fit for the left and right screws. Sorry, no pics of mine, I was in a hurry to get it done. I did not contour the bar, only cut width and depth to fit the hole. There was more than enough room to fish the wires through. There are some gaps on either side but it is nice and secure. Looking for ides on how to fill it in. Maybe a section of round rubber gasket?

The screen itself is attached the same way (2 holes drill & tapped, center stut cut off) with the largest screw size that would fit the steel bracket (M6?).

So far so good. The screen is MUCH sharper and easier to read. I wish the stock screen had been just a bit bigger as I really had no complaints about the Sync 2.5 system. The radio worked and AA worked with my wireless dongle. Maybe I got lucky?

Sounds strange.
Do a double-check in pins 3,4 from Sync to Gray connector.
I think those are used for that. But I'm not sure 100%

i'm curious, when you do a swap like this, or replace the instrument screen, and take it in for service, what does your dealership say? is your warranty void? do they just ignore it? say it's cool?

i'm curious, when you do a swap like this, or replace the instrument screen, and take it in for service, what does your dealership say? is your warranty void? do they just ignore it? say it's cool?
Why on earth would you care what the dealer thinks?

You can always swap back the OE if you're really worried about it or if you absolutely must have recall taken care of it that requires the old stuff to be in place, like the backup camera.

So you did the update and your voice prompts mute the radio? I'm seeing that this could be a sync firmware issue.

Can you point me to any documentation on those pins? It would help to know what they control to check if any other functionality is broken. Everything else is working fine and my connections all toned out OK. VERY happy with the bigger, brighter screen!
