I see my neighbor's Chevy Avalanche and think, "Wow! That looks horrible!" See picture. Then I look at my Maverick and wonder how I'm going to stop the plastic molding on mine from looking just like his.

Chemical Guys VRP (Vinyl, Rubber, Plastic) is one of the most popular dressings in the detailing world because it’s a "jack-of-all-trades" for your car's trim. It’s a water-based cream designed to restore a deep, dark shine to faded surfaces without leaving them greasy.

I don't think an Avalanche exists that doesn't look like this.

Other than what @dlivry7 suggests, most (if not all) of the above are nothing but topical dressings that only last a very short time, especially the water based ones. You see the impressively-named "303 Aerospace Protectant" mentioned on a lot of forums. It was fine on interior plastics but this water based crap was useless on the outside of my RAM Promaster, didn't hold up to the first rain shower.

One member of the Promaster forum said Cerakote trim restorer worked wonders on his faded plastic and it still looked good after a few years. Quite a claim and he had pictures. Having tried most of the other ones I gave it a shot and it was amazing. Thought it couldn't last but 2 years later when I traded the van for the Maverick it still looked like new.

Check online reviews, look at YouTube clips, etc. Most seem to be formulated not to last too long so you keep buying it. If you don't mind putting most of this stuff on every few weeks they're fine. If you prefer one and done, Cerakote does the job.
