I’m curious if you can achieve 60 mpg’s in heavy interstate or hi-way traffic. It’s fairly easy to get into electric mode.
Anything with speedup/slowdown is in town traffic and sustained speeds at even 55 will start approaching epa highway lower speeds. Any attempts to utilize electric mode will help increase mpg. I have gotten as high as 62mpg on 71.1 mile trip just by not using cruise or AC IN ECONOMY and climbing hills as slow as 60mph and coasting down at up to 85mph with light braking. The return is 220 foot higher elevation and most of the slopes uphill in that direction are less steep and longer. The mpg going uphill return work out to 12-14 mpg less.

Nope, same here in Western MA. Mostly 65 on the main interstates and 55 on some of the beltways. I've only seen 70 when you start getting out to the Midwest like Ohio and Indiana.
That’s what I thought but I don’t spend much time out there.

Try areas of toll road near Tesla plant east of Austin with speed limit of 85 where they drive 90+. 60 is wreck waiting to happen.
I had to go to Houston, and just got my M5 back from the shop (lots of upgrades) I decided to drive, I had a lot of fun going through TX.

Driving at 60 on the highway can get you rear ended!
Do it every day in areas around me with 55 MPH zones. Anything over, you're being reckless.

You must live in Texas. We have 2 lane state highways at 70 MPH.

I really enjoy this thread. I have tweaked my settings to my liking and have the best results in maximizing my mileage by using the E coach with my driving. Love to watch the length of the bars indicating the range of choice. It keeps me very conscience of my foot pressure and options.

Actually almost any car with fuel control management can get close this. My 2010 Camaro with a 350cid V-8, 400 RWHP can get 60+ "cresting hill at 60mph and hitting cruise control." I just can't stand to do 55 MPH for an hour, even if I will get 45-50 MPG.

Even with hills if I can stand to do 55MPH for 20+ miles, I will get an overall average MPG of 35-38 for the 60 mile drive. At 65 MPG the same trip averages 27-32. Funny thing is it's only one way. I get 35-40mph going south from Temecula to San Diego, but coming north it will drop 5-10 MPG coming back from SD to Temecula (I-15 Interstate which is 5 lanes wide, so I can stay in #5 lane safely at 55-65mph, which is a 70MPH zone). Once I get above 60 MPH average, my V-8 really starts dropping the MPG.

** DISCLAIMER This is only the automatic V-8 with Active Fuel Management. The manual (stick shift) I don't think has an aggressive AFM like the L88 automatic Camaro. Hell, going downhill I'm at 99 MPG for a good chunk of time (on declines at 5% grade or more). This also saves me wear and tear on my brakes. While everyone around me is hitting their brakes on steep declines, my AFM is using engine breaking to keep my fuel consumption at 0 and my speed at the setting (otherwise I'd creep from 65 MPH to easily 75-80 MPH just giving a cop a reason to stop me).

All I said is that driving 60 on the highway "CAN" get you rear ended. The reason is all the crazies driving 80+ who are not paying attention. Also how close were those 4 cars folloing behind you? Many drivers will almost tailgate on the highway behind slower drivers. That can cause an accident.
The cars were spaced at safe intervals as I already mentioned. If the 80+ people are not paying attention, the accident is their fault. Don't try to put the blame on the person who is honoring the law. The people who tailgate me, will find that I just slowly slow down and they will eventually go around. There are ways to deal with roadway bullies. Yes Bullies.

Also what is everyone in such a hurry about. Not all folks are in a hurry.

Yes r100gs91 I agree their are bullies on the roads. But who wants to be in an accident even if it is not their fault and they are driving within the law? I think no one. You have to drive defensively to save yourself.

Tested at 60 mpg. Must be in ECO mode. Crest the hill. Let power drop to about 8%. Blip the cruise. Control.

I use to get 41 MPG consistently. I live in San Diego, so that was a 50/50 mix deal f Surface streets and highway. I always kept it in Eco and drove as slow as possible. Tire PSI all at 41. I now get free gas from my company, so I drive like a normal person with a full ICE. I now only get 32 MPG. It just shows how critical driving behavior affects MPG.

This was for test purposes. Was in the right (non-hammer) lane and paying attention to everything around me (as always). Don’t judge me.
Did you have an orange triangle attached to the tailgate?
