Got my Maverick in late December. After 5000 miles I'm hovering around 21mpg. I'm a little disappointed but I suspect the optimistic MPG rating is based on running in "Eco" mode with the start/stop feature engaged. The weather here has had me in "Slippery" mode most of time vs. "Eco" and I religiously turn off the auto start/stop feature.

Mine is spot on the EPA ratings. I have an FX4 though, so likely (very) slightly below what a standard AWD Ecoboost might get with the same conditions.

I hand-calculate every tank, but I also have calibrated my dash to show very close to accurate MPG.
How do you go about calibrating your dash?

I'm curious how the Ecoboost owners are doing with gas mileage? Have you seen it improve over time as the engine broke in? I mainly use ECO mode and it has improved slightly since the truck was new

Currently I have 9,000 miles on my truck and around town I average 24 and last long trip I averaged just under 32 mpg. I'd love to get above 25 around town.
2023 Tremor XLT with 10,500 miles. Use 92 octane lead free mostly 2 lane rural roads and I'm at 29.3 since new. Gets around 28+ in cold weather and 30-31 in warm weather. I'd probably do a little better if I wasn't always in a hurry to get where I'm going or back home!

I have a 25 XLT FX4 Tow Package; upsized my tires to 245/65 R17s; also have a ladder rack and retractable tonneau cover. I'm mostly city driving at this point and am only getting like 18 mpg. Are the larger tiers, rack and cover all combining to kill my mileage that bad?

Just back from Cleveland, half through Indiana backroads avoiding I-70. I was driving as fast as 80 and up and down from 25-55 for half of it. Adaptive cruise in Ohio set at 75-77. 29mpg, about 1000 miles total I think. Only 2nd trip over a couple three hundred miles. Milage has never been great but I don't take it on trips, almost all city. It gets serviced spring and fall.

These ecoboosts are only rated for 22 city in the first place. Up-sized tires will hurt MPG, and a ladder rack is going to destroy your aerodynamics.

City driving is also highly subjective, because unlike the highway, city driving can vary wildly. In my city, I tend to hit 1-2 MPG above, because there's lots of 45-55 mph byways I use to get around in between the block to block traffic. When driving in the previous city, those were not available, and my MPG was usually about 1 below what the car was rated at. This was true for any make or model I drove. Last time I filled the Mav it was hitting 24.6 MPG, hand calculated of course.

So if youre driving in an area where the cruise control can never be used, 18 MPG is perfectly normal. Especially if there are a lot of cold starts mixed in there. If the engine doesnt get much time to heat up its gonna slurp fuel every time you start.
