I'm curious how the Ecoboost owners are doing with gas mileage? Have you seen it improve over time as the engine broke in? I mainly use ECO mode and it has improved slightly since the truck was new

Currently I have 9,000 miles on my truck and around town I average 24 and last long trip I averaged just under 32 mpg. I'd love to get above 25 around town.
43K miles on the truck and currently my milage reads 31.2 for the last 428 miles. About 80% of that was highway driving. Never tested the MPG reading on the truck but have seen a few videos of those that have and they appear reasonably accurate.

I get between 17-18 mpg around town on my 2023 Maverick XLT Ecoboost. On the highway, it does closer to 20 mpg. But, I am disappointed with my mpg overall. I have only 14,000 miles on the truck and have changed my break-in oil and then have had regular oil changes every 5,000 miles.

I have to use a variety of gas stations. So, I can't really tell what the impact of the fuel I am using has had on my mpg. I drive only in normal mode. Never use ECO or Sport modes. Typically, the truck bed is empty and I don't tow anything. I suspect my heavy foot has something to do with the mpg.

Consistently using top tier 91 octane will get you 1-2mpg increase - but maybe not if it makes your foot heavier.

And the added cost will not justify the change. But if you’re only concerned with mpg (not cost) - it might get you a little extra mpg.

Your heavy foot is at the root of your “problem” I’m guessing? And have paid about an extra $400/yr for that heavy foot. I think it is worth it:)

30,000 miles since June of ‘24. 27 MPG during winter months using remote start and 30 MPG during warmer months without the remote start. Mostly city driving. Managed to get it up to 34 MPG on a trip from Mass to North Carolina. That is from the dashboard computer.

90% short 5 miles trips is brutally severe driving for an EB. Hopefully you have changed your oil 6 or so times in the 3 years of ownership?

Also, if the other 10% isn’t “Italian Tuneups” - start doing those and watch your mpg’s nudge upward!

Other 10% is indeed the tried and true, Italian tune up. Did the first oil change at 1000 then once a year using Costco Synthetic 5w30 oil. Not worried about it. I bought the Maverick as a beater, so it gets beat.

Since 2025 model yr I have not understood why folks buy EB, -the hybrid added AWD and 4kTow options that yr which seems to make them equivalent yet the hybrid gets 40Mpg in town and 36+ on hwy. Yeah, the 36 is not huge dif from 32 on hwy but I love that when I get in a traffic jam or doing in town chores I get the 40. Acceleration is fine, I towed a 4k boat, my brakes will last 2-3 times as long, etc- so why buy EB? Just asking because my short answer to the OP is to increase in-town mpg trade for a hybrid version, but maybe there is a reason not to do it that I don’t get?

Preference. EB seems to have less issues. Some people like to tinker. Enjoy turbo sounds. HP/TQ, Tuning potential. Not everyone sits in traffic or runs a list of in town chores. Some people buy based on needs and budget. No hybrid LOBO or Tremor. Not everyone wants to drive a Prius.

Exactly. The 4K Tow Package does not add more POWER to the Hybrid - only adds more stress on the eCVT if you do tow 4K.

The eCVT is another reason I chose the EB…

That said, I can understand why folks do chose the Maverick Hybrid. Great truck. A “no-brainer” for many.

I would have seriously considered a Hybrid Lobo if it were available. Getting 25 to 30 mpg around town would be nice (My Lobo gets me 20).

Sport suspension, manual paddle shifting, amplified Atkinson growl through the bass speakers. Torque Vectoring RDU (possible?).

But the added hassle of owning a hybrid would have steered me back to the EB Lobo probably.

When you drive 2500 miles or less a year and plan to keep the truck for 30+ years- The Ecoboost wins. The gas savings in this scenario is destroyed by multiple high voltage battery replacements due to chemical aging. Also, with so little driving, the gas will go stale sitting for months in the hybrid vs the more frequent fill ups in the ecoboost.
