How does the 'Auto' button work in the climate control?

I recently saw a video that showed the Climate Control's Auto button has three different modes, indicated by the number of lights displayed on the button. Why would the button have different modes? For every other vehicle I've owned, the Auto button was either off or on, and automatically controlled the fan speed.

I looked at the owners manual and saw the following description. Does that mean Auto doesn't automatically control fan speed? If not, what does it do?

who knows but it does. Is it useful? In my opinion yes. I've used it on the cold days, set it on the highest setting, then lower once I'm comfortable)

Also I have no proof of this but the different limits might enable/disable where the heat comes from instead of just speed. (Max allows the defroster to run while minimum doesn't etc)

I've noticed turning Auto off sometimes results in condensation on the windows. This leads me to believe it changes airflow based on temp, humidity, and where it comes out from...and that it's also cycling the AC...

It is not three different MODES of Auto it is three different FAN Speeds when in Auto Mode.

Auto mode will automatically regulate the cars temperature to your set preference, I’ve noticed it’ll come out of the vents on the windshield when close to the set temp or maintaining. The three settings limit the fan speed the system can use to regulate the temp. When it is quite a difference from what you want it’ll run at the max fan speed you have set until it reaches desired temperature and will lower fan speed as needed

It just allows for three stages of fan while the temp and vents are auto regulated.

So say you wanted some more ventilation or air flow but no change to temp you could cycle that to make it fit and then the car would just manage what vent and the temp.

As the title says it shows the status of the fan speed. It’s definitely automatic and will start in highest mode if your truck is parked in the hot sun.

It controls the maximum fan speed. So, on high, for example, the blower may run at a low, medium, or high speed. On medium, it can run low or medium, and on low, the fan will not go to medium or high.

So, all three modes are automatic, but you can limit the blower noise and ventilation to your preference.

I think it's a nice touch. Most cars just go full blast fan in auto mode if the set temp is far off the ambient temp. Then right away, most people lower the fan speed because it's annoying, and for some cars that kicks the HVAC out of auto mode. Kinda dumb. With the Mav system, you can control fan speed WITHOUT kicking it out of auto mode.

'Auto' refers to the interior climate control: when using Auto and if you set the temperature to 70f, the heater or A/C will run to reach and maintain that temperature.

I personally like the ability to run Auto in different fan speeds. With my Forester's Auto setup, the fan blows on high until it reaches the set temp, which drowns out the audio system.
