I've been driving our beat up minivan for years. So finally, my wife and I decided for my 40th birthday I deserved a truck. I'd owned a truck years ago and was looking forward to having one once again.
Initially I wanted a GMC Sierra Denali. Once I found out how much they ran, I decided maybe a midsize was better. I started my search and settled on the idea of a used Tacoma. I was particularly fond of the tan color they offered. As I started to look for one with the right options and mileage I quickly realized I was going to be in for 35k-40k easily. My wife and I talked and she asked me if I really wanted to spend that much money on a vehicle that gets 20mpg. I reluctantly agreed that maybe it wasn't the best idea.
So now I decided to look for a new car with good gas mileage. I'd started looking at Honda Civics and Toyota Camrys. But once again, when finding a relatively newer one with the right options, the price was still over 30k most of the time. I was pretty deflated. I didn't really want a car, so I was already settling. I definitely didn't want to pay that much while settling.
So now, I decided to look at early 2000s Dakotas. On a whim one not I decided to search for Hybrid Trucks, not knowing if they existed. I come across the Maverick and was like, "What the hell is this? This looks nice!" Then I noticed the price! I could get a brand new vehicle for less than a used car! The wife and I talked about it and I ended up ordering at the deadline on my 40th birthday.
And so now I continue my wait for my 40th birthday present as I'm now closer to my 41st lol
