This is interesting. I'm in Michigan as well and had a '22 hybrid last winter. MPG took a hit in the cold months. I haven't had any battery issues on either truck ( I now have a '23 hybrid), but I did get a message on FordPass a few weeks ago that some features would be temporarily disabled, but did not see anything different in the funcionality of the vehicle. I checked the voltage of the 12v battery and it was fine.

I'm in Southwest MI and didn't have any issues last winter. I set my truck to start 10 minutes before I leave in the winter.

It MAY be sensor bias.
Bias that Ford is aware of and ScanGauge isn't. Until we tell them.

My battery coolant was exactly 20 degrees warmer than ambient after an all night cool down / rest.

But so was engine coolant.

Air: 53°F
Battery Coolant: 73°F
Battery: 57°F
Engine Coolant: 73°F

Battery after 40 minutes driving: 100°F
Ambient: 59°F
Battery Coolant: 84°F
(Or 64°F if biased by 20 degrees)

What is apparent, the battery coolant loop does no cooling below 100°F.
I've witnessed this for a year.

I posted this back in July:

Ford Maverick High Voltage Battery Heating - NOT Possible cause of 12v battery drain 1697131264292

Blue arrow first evidence of cooling.
Green arrow, when I stopped the truck.

On this date I did not see the 20 degree bias. But didn't start in a cold morning either.

The Mav has a very neat exhaust gas to Battery Fluid heat exchanger to warm the battery. Super cool and why not, use a waste product to keep it warm.

I am aware of this heat exchanger, but was under the impression that this was used to warm the engine coolant instead of the battery coolant. These systems are separate.

The warming that we are referring to happens before the ICE starts on a cold morning.

It could be. I watch Munro live on YouTube and the lines from it went right to the battery, if I recall. I could be wrong. I will have to watch his undercarriage review again, for the third time…

Battery for sure…9:00 minutes into the video.

I’ve watched this a few times myself as well!

I would imagine a PTC for a small Hybrid battery is not advantageous due to the small hybrid batteries.

It uses exhaust heat to warm the battery loop. I have drawings somewhere.

I also think the liquid is STAGNANT.... not circulating most of the time.

Maybe the loop is stagnant and the temperature probe is picking up heat via conduction and convection?

How else would you explain this just now.

73 degree outside air.
82 degree battery.
99 degree battery coolant.

If the battery coolant reading is off by 20, 79 degrees may be realistic.

I don’t think this is accurate. I am seeing what you are seeing at 9:00, but the coolant lines from the exhaust heat exchanger do not appear to go to the battery. I will update shortly with some beautiful artwork demonstrating….

The 20 degree error is looking more probable. This image from July 24th. 1:30pm, on a warm day.
Before I was looking for any bias.

There's no logical need for battery heating on July 24th. Makes sense stagnant water would be the same as battery temperature, don't you think?

Like arteries and veins, I'm seeing some cross-connections.

25 is the exhaust heat exchanger

24 yellow goes to cabin air heater core, which in turn is part of the engine coolant system

23 red goes to HV battery

Found the location of the "coolant" line sensor:

I'm not sure I am following your logic here. In warmer climates, sure. But below optimal temperatures have an effect on the batteries ability to accept a charge.

Where are you getting these diagrams from?
