Putting these on my wife's Escape as my dealer highly recommend them. Thanks
Does your wife have a hybrid or regular Escape? I'm looking into replacement tires for my wife's 23 Escape Hybird. What tires does your wife's Escape have on it now? Please let me know how you like the new Conti's.

22 xlt hybrid - OE Contis are at 4/32 thread at 36k miles so it's time for new tires soon. For context, I live in southern California but travel around the state as well as neighboring states but rarely on snow. I wouldn't have thought so hard on this but now that I have a little one, I want to find the best tire that I can.

I am deciding between the Michelin Defender 2 or the Crossclimate 2 - I'm reading that the xc2 does better in the rain and just as well in the dry as the defenders but significantly better in snow. So the only pro for the defender is the price (cheaper by $100) and longer life. Would love to hear people's experience with these tires or if you have a different tire on your mav that you love! Thanks!
I replaced the POS OEM Pirelli Scorpion ATR's at 30K, $ & % 32 thread life left. While I see mostly highway driving, there is about 10% mild off-road in farm fields in the fall. I went with the Cooper Discoverer Road/Trail. Has what I was looking: ie, MP3 snowflake rating, a bit more aggressive tread, long life 65K, and on SALE at local Ford dealer. Not the top-performing tire in most categories, but always in the top 4. (Tire Rack?)

Last weekend I had
Firestone Destination A/T2
Off-Road All-Terrain
tires installed. stock size 225-65-17
After much reading, including the tires mentioned here, I went with them.
And they were bought at a Firestone store-not much difference in pricing, but they have some good rebates going on right now.
Bottom line after 25 miles-Quieter and better ride than the Continentals, handling seems the same,
but most noticeable is the much better rolling resistance. I'm using more brake on the same roads traveled. Interesting, so fuel mileage may go up.
But anyway it's a square shouldered tire that makes the Maverick look more truckish. We will see how rain/snow performance goes-but The Rack seems to like them.

I'm surprised that you are experiencing a mileage increase from going to these AT tires. Most people's experience is a 2-4mpg hit with new tires and off-road tires

Haven't check gas mileage, only put on Sat., but with the less rolling resistance it may increase.
Big surprise to me how free the truck rolls now. No other checks or adjustments, just the tire swap.

The factory tires have 10/32" of tread. Why are you swapping tires at 4/32" remaining tread? The treadwear indicators are at 2/32" and the tires are safe to drive until the treadwear indicators are flat, even in heavy rain.

The factory continental tires (on the hybrid) actually came with 8/32" while most tires come with 10-11/32" tread so they were definitely cheap tires to begin with. Stopping distances begin to increase significantly (especially in the rain) starting around 4/32". It would be fine if I was going into the summer with 4/32" remaining but we're going into the rainy season so it is much safer going with new tires.

Has anyone noticed the bubbled looking thin sidewalls of the factory Continentals.
Like I've mentioned before, youll only get around 25k at most on new vehicle tires. I wonder what an automakers actual cost for these type of tires are.
How many go to dealership to get new tires. Typically the cost is at least 10% or much more than a tire shop.
My tire shop offers a lifetime alignment for about 40 bucks more than a one time. So if I keep the vehicle for awhile it pays off. I'll go in for an oil change, get a free alignment check and alignment if needed, free tire rotation. Killing 3 birds with one stone. Of course have free flat repair and is easier to schedule the work.

Had a short 40-mile run, off highway yesterday.
Normally 21 and change is the mpg with the stock Conti's.
The readout showed 23 and change mpg. And it's still in that number around town.
I find that interesting-so checked the weight-Conti-24 lbs.-Firestone 25 lbs. Hmm light for a A/T tire.
But the free feeling as they roll is still interesting-that's all for now.

MPG with a lightweight shallow tread, most likely single ply rated to 4 ply specs sidewall and the lack of 1-1.4lb belt the 3 pound heavier after market replacement tire has. Some of the new conti tires like the True contact tour 54 that I bought have heat activated polymers with reduced rolling resistance plus other things. Some of the newer after market tires are almost as light as the OEM versions. The after market rotary cast alloy wheels are a mpg improver also.

How are you liking the new Conti Tour 54's on your wife's Escape hybrid plug in? Also what tires did you replace on the Escape? Do you notice any difference in fuel economy? Like I mentioned previously we are tire shopping for my wife's 23 AWD Escape Hybrid which came with Michelin Primacy A/S from the factory but they are looking a little worn at 40K miles.

We also replaced the Primacy tires but at 33K. My wife complained about traction in the rain.
The Tour 54's made a huge difference in that regard. They ride well & the car overall feels overall feels better. Gas mileage is more about driving habits so I can't comment on it.
