Help with L option on turn switch selector

Can someone help me how to use the L "Low" button in the center of the drive selector turn knob? How do I know if it is on off and the ins and outs of this function. Does it light up when on or not. Any and all help will be appreciated.

It holds the transmission in lower gears, and gives you engine braking . I use it when I am driving slowly through a neighborhood full of kids or a parking lot. It can be useful on hills.

Really? When I tried that feature in a hilly area, the downshift was so severe I thought the rods would be coming out the side of the block. Now before you Hybrid folks say otherwise, there is a huge difference in how the EB/8-spd reacts vs the Hybrid.

But, I'm glad that button is there. I understand that when I drive up/down Pikes Peak this spring, they'll look for that option to minimize brake fade.

There are (2) indicators. The "L" on the dash will turn red, plus there's an indicator light on the button.

Yes
There's an indicator on your center dash that lights up L when it is activated. Along with a small amber light below the L button.

If you would only look at your vehicle configuration indicators occasionally, you'd notice there are lights to keep you informed of vehicle status, as posted in the pictures above by @Hot Runr Guy and @Glen Baker LLC.
