Got first oil change at 1,350 miles

Just got my first oil change at 1,350 miles. on my 2024 ford maverick xl ecobost. Use Ford's mobile service I thought they would have some special Jack's to raise the truck up to remove underbody panel to get to drain plug and oil filter. But no when he arrived I asked so how you going to raise the truck up he said just like changing a tire use jacking point on passenger side then I crawl under and that's it. Well that's stupid why don't you use car ramps he said this is how they do it. Well I have been under my truck two times to take that panel off and even with car ramps it was hard to reach all the screws to get the underbody panel off. Anyway we used my ramps it went much smoother and easyer for him to do my oil change and also helped drain out all old oil because drain pluge is at the back of oil pan. He also did my BCM recall I had. So other than the stupid way he was going to get under my truck everything went great. Don't know if it costs more for them to come to your house for oil change because this was my free one for buying the truck from them. I loved it makes me feel like I have more control on what's being done to my truck. I do all my oil changes myself anyway but this one was free. The old oil was a greenish color and smelled bad he said it was a break in additive they put in at factory. Glad i did it early at only 1,350 miles on it. So I recommend ford mobile service

Lots of different options when to do first oil change. But 1,500 miles seams to be the consensus of most people. Never heard of flushing with 1 quart of new oil but sounds logical. But bottom line first oil change is vary important to do sooner than what owners manual says.

Can you comment on whether the Ford engineers are correct in their design of "Ford Maverick's Intelligent Oil Life Monitor", or if we should simply ignore factory recommended maintenance intervals?

I usually have to flush with about half a quart due to a slope that I'm too lazy to address. I'm not going for super clear brand new see through oil but I know from experience doing it before that I end up not using about half a quart if I don't flush which means half a quart of old crap is still in there.

My first OA from Blackstone had higher than usual fuel in it, still below 1% and I think that's why. Just sent my second one in a couple days ago so we'll see. Really wish we had those nice dual port injectors though but o' well, we make due

I don't doubt there are increased wear metals in the oil in the first 500, 1000, etc miles. I do question whether going from 8 parts per million in normal OCI's to 40 parts per million in the first oil change actually has a material effect on the lifespan of the motor itself.

To put it in perspective, imagine roughly 300 sugar cubes. Now pick out 40 individual grains of sugar. That is 40 ppm.

The 2.0 ecoboost has other issues (turbo, DI, higher operating temps) etc that would be much more detrimental to its longevity vs changing the oil at 500 miles. IMO of course.

The 2.5l in the hybrid (knock on wood) seems to be a very tried and true motor, I'm glad they went with that. And the shortcomings of it they fixed on the 2025 (AWD/4k).

I don't see spending a few $$ on an early oil change as a bad thing - a little insurance if they've somehow left a bit of material in the block from the machining, not to mention that there is some wear-in/break-in activity going on. Which continues.

I've always done the first change around 1000 miles, then move on to a 5000 mile interval on ecoboost engines. Keep in mind that the engine oil also lubricates the turbos, a potential source of heat (as is the entire engine really). Keeping the oil relatively fresh and clean is a good thing.

Could probably go a little longer, but that depends on driving style. And changing on the 5's makes it easy to remember.

I agree every 5,000 miles is best but not for the first one. I will do my second one at 5,000 and then like you said easy to remember every 5,000 from then on.

Yeah, I caught that little detail too. Pretty wrong-headed. Sounds like they sent the poor tech out poorly equipped to deal with this aspect of his job. Glad the OP had ramps.

I changed mine the first time at 2000 miles. No regrets as the stuff that came out of it was nasty. Brownish green stuff that didn't smell any too good either. I'll change it again at 5000, then every 5000 afterwards.
People don't take into consideration who is telling them the extended oil changes are alright. Ford's "engineers" are on Ford's payroll, and Ford has one purpose in being, to sell cars. They don't want your Maverick to last 150+ thousand miles, they want it to burn out at 80000, then you'll buy another one..
