On my way to work tonight, I went through a fast food drive thru and when I got back on the road, I noticed a loud rattle and rear shake when I hit ~25mph. It was like when wheels are out of balance. I stopped and looked around all four wheels and couldn't find anything out of the ordinary. I went the rest of the way to work (about one mile) very slowly. When I got to work, I noticed the back driver side window was half way down. I guess I inadvertently let it down in the drive thru. I put it back up and did a quick road test and problem solved. I had no idea having the back windows down could cause this. It was very unnerving and something I will remember if it ever happens again.

Thanks for the heads up, I will remember that! Amazing how stuff like this can catch us so off guard.

By the way thank you for your military service! :)

So it was wind buffeting?
I have no idea what caused it. It wasn't windy, just whatever 25mph created. I didn't have time to do a lot of investigating as I had to get to work. Maybe I will do some road tests on my days off to see if I can recreate the problem. If I can get my son to ride with me, maybe we can get a video. I want to try it with the same window all the way down and different scenarios with all windows half and all the way down.

My Subaru Forester does it... a thrumming sound that goes right through your head. It's extremely annoying and prevents opening the rear windows unless one or both of the front windows are at least open a little bit.

WOW! This is a common occurrence. It is obvious you have been driving Corvettes, Porches and two door sport cars for a very long time. Welcome to my :Dworld now. HA HA.

I think pretty much everything does it. The Fit does it when my wife accidentally rolls up the front windows before the back ones.

Pretty much all the vehicles I've owned did that in various degrees. And from one vet to another. Thanks for you service.

Happens on every vehicle I have owned if you only have one window open a little. It sounds like a helicopter! My kids think it's funny..

Yes, I agree with the others, as even some of the 4 door cars have this wind buffering and that most of the full size trucks do as well. Can really get annoying. If I had a manual or sliding rear window in the truck, I would open it up some and it would help. I havent driven my Maverick with the back windows down yet, so it will be interesting to see what I can do to temper it as I do have the manual sliding window I could open up. Thanks for the heads up.
