Waiting for my 2024 XLT Hybrid, currently in production.
I do have one question, with it being built in Mexico will it use metric fasteners ( nuts, bolts, etc.)?

I am excited to receive the truck, I have owned a truck for more than 30 years. Have been without one for more than year, sold my 21 Ram 3500 Crew Cab with an 8 foot bed, high output Cummins diesel (towed a 42' fifth wheel) so this will be a very different experience.

Thank you for any information.
In a related question, how can I find out if my crescent wrenches are standard or metric?

After a deep dive into the dark web, blackmailing several congressmen, petting a kitten, bribing the CEO of a multinational company and performing many acts of torture and sabotage, I finally found the answer… ā€œyesā€

I think it has been more than 20 years. I haven’t worked at the auto repair shop for about 15 years and it was all metric before then.
It will be a COMBINATION.

Might be more metric than not.
But there will be some of each.

Because components come from all over the world.

For your oil change:
T30 TORX BIT FOR UNDERBODY COVER (15 total screws)
15MM FOR OIL PLUG
20FT LBS OF TORQUE TO SECURE OIL PLUG

So. yeah, I think it's mainly metric.
Speaking of oil plugs - has anyone switched to a magnetic oil pan plug to catch any small metal fragments that may have escaped the oil filter? Good idea, or not worth the trouble?

From my understanding it was because the world (except for few) uses metric, and that vehicles from the same assembly line are built for places other than the US, that most car companies had turned to metric a long time ago. I don’t know the last time I have seen other than metric, but I admit I may be incorrect.

A good part of it will be built in Detroit but you're still going to have metric fasteners

It's funny. I've looked through a few HUNDRED pages of workshop repair manual. They never list bolt or screw size.

They simply say "remove and discard the 4 bolts. Torque new bolts to 50 ft/lbs.". A few places they say "use a 1/2 inch or larger socket driver to turn the drive shaft". Etc
They always give distances in inches and feet. "Raise the vehicle at least 4 feet and peel back the plastic at least 3 inches."

I'm with you. A lot or most fasteners are probably metric. But seems like they don't want to commit. šŸ˜Ž

I don't care if they are SAE or Metric. I would just be happy to get my truck that was ordered 15+ months ago!! Why is the wait so long. Why are 2024 trucks being delivered before they complete the 2023 orders! Comon Ford, it's enough to drive me over to buying a Chevrolet, even though I've driven fords for over 40 years!

Haha, Ford commit to something.
It is amazing how many people even struggle with metric, even though it is an easier system to use. 10mm to small? Add 1.
5/8 to small… add 1/32? 1/16? Convert the fraction… carry the one… square root of -2? Pi/4? Wait, did someone say pie? 🄧
I know that mechanics memorize the numbers because they use it so much, but for the layman, it isn’t always so easy.

Yes, pretty much ALL vehicles use metric ("SI") fasteners these days. Be aware that the Maverick appears to use Torx Plus fasteners that are not quite the same as standard Torx ones. You can often get by using a Torx wrench in a Torx Plus bolt but the fit will be sloppy so you should not apply much torque this way. e.g. The bolts on the bed tiedowns or tailgate cover would be OK. Note that Torx Plus tools will not fit into a standard Torx bolt. I bought the Neiko bits and have been pretty happy with them, but would still consider a set of T-handle wrenches when they become available in Torx Plus.

It's not about where it's built, but what the specs asked for by the manufacturer.

I'm betting MOST imperial tools and fasteners are made in China. Just like metric stuff. ;)
