Ahh....No, hell no.
I would rather have the dial or push buttons on the dash. At least I can manage the current setup with gloves on.
Same here. Put it on the dash, free up a small amount of room on the console! I would like a "stop" on each end (park and drive) though, but the bean counters would say .03 will cost WAY too much. Happy Thanksgiving!

We do enjoy the "shift" noise in Sport mode. A bit cheezy, but ok. I have been thinking about trying to come up with a small glue on button (or something similar) for the round knob and two second "buttons" on each end of the panel the shift knob sits on, one near park, other near drive. Would have to be glued on just right to ensure you were in the appropriate gear. Better be good glue also. Anyone else got a fix it idea?
I guess you could create your own stops, a roll pin out of the back of the dial and 2 pins sticking up on the back side of the plate, something like this but more elegant

That was exactly what I had in mind! My skill level may be lacking, but at some point I may tackle this project. Hopefully without destroying anything! Anyone else ready to try?

Why are some of you so freaked out about harmless over-rotation? 🤔

There's a PRNDL indicator on your instrument display. Do you really have to look down to find the shifter in your Maverick?
If one has driven a car with a stick shift, shifting while not having to look at where the gears are is a natural progression to the knob.

Yeah, but with a manual shifter you feel where it is in the pattern.

I drove stick for 25 years, I find myself not needing to look at the dial for gear selection. I understand why some folks want a more classic shifter, but I'm definitely satisfied with the extra space... the stick shift and my prior vehicles cup-holders were often coterminous.

I wonder if having a feature that announced the selected gear over the speakers would be enough for some folks that somehow can't see either the dial or the console indicator.

You have to remember, over 3/4’s of the members here are BOOMERS, and we have all been trained on manual transmissions, whether it be 2-3-4-5 and now 6-7 speed trannys, sticks or on the tree, a clutch you could ‘manipulate’ to your style of driving was fun and many here will never experience, sad really. 😞 Ok, 3/4’s might be pushing it. 😉

Because the positions are pretty much virtual I'd make them temporary at first. I hope it works for you because then I'd try it.

Still have a clutch on my Miata and my bikes but I've gotten used to that buttery smooth shifting on my Mav. The Maverick replaced a Buick SUV. I started driving in the 70's and the first 4 vehicles were stick. Funny, my F100 was auto.

Ya, got my Mav as a retirement gift to myself cause no more shifting, put it in D and go. But… still looking forward to Spring to get the Z-28 , 4 speed out again, even tho it hurts more and more every year to get in and out! 😫

Yep. Fun as heck but my ass is about 6" off the ground in the Miata. That's the reason I got rid of my Adirondack chairs.

I drove my Miata for 9 years and 70,000 miles (an '06; the first year I could it into [well, with the top down. Up, it's low on my forehead . . .].

Anyway, it got lower and smaller every year!

Now it's been sitting waiting for a new engine for 10 years, which probably happens next year. Maybe it's grown again while I wasn't driving it . . .
