I rented a Chrysler Pacifica for 2 days and the gear shift knob was placed on the dashboard by the radio. It was easily seen without looking down. I found this set up was much easier to use than the Fords gear shift knob position. In 2 days of driving I had zero issues with it, unlike the Ford shifter where I sometimes accidentally shift into reverse.

IMO because the Mavericks have a center console that's why it's in the console. If it wasn't in the console on the Mavericks and on the dash IMO it would look out of place.

The Maverick's does take a bit of getting used to. I've noticed that after 3 years of use, I have a sixth sense of what gear I'm using. It would help if the shifter's ratchet effect would come to a stop. That way I would be able sense the number of clicks.

I have only had issues a few times in my first year when I was doing a 3 point turn because of the horrible turning radius the mavericks have. I do miss the turning radius in my grand cherokee laredo

Number of clicks is independent of a stop at either end.

I have had my truck for over two and a half years with zero issues/problems with the rotary gear knob.

Guess I am "Old Fashioned".
I have always "looked" at the shifter, when I use it...

This is true for me when I've driven automatics, however most of my 56+ years of licenced driving has been with manuals which I never look at. Like others have said, it needs a feel.

Ford could have done a better job with the Maverick's rotary shifter. As mentioned above the notches are barely noticeable and in addition to that it spins continuously.

My wife previously had a 2022 Edge and that rotary shifter had much much more noticeable detents and it had hard stops at Park & Drive, so you can't keep rotating right past Drive or left past Park. It's more convenient because if you want to go to Park or Drive you just rotate it quickly until it stops. When I first got my Maverick I thought there was something wrong with the rotary shift dial because it didn't have hard stops like the Edge. Not sure why Ford doesn't use the same set up on the Maverick.

This is my biggest gripe. Sometimes when I backup, I accidentally spin the dial clockwise, which goes forward. Not good. It would be nice if it had a stop at both ends.

Hmmmm...... seems more intuitive to me to look at the meter while reaching down to move the dial.... But I also learned to drive with a manual, so I was never used to looking at the shifter. 🤠
