Gas pump shutting off and gas spilling out

Hey!
So I just filled my maverick up for the first time and I had a bit of an issue.

when filling it up the pump would shut off every 3 seconds. When I let go and continue (because I know I am on E)gas splashes back and onto the side of my truck. I’m not sure if it was user error or the Gas pump not jelling with the easy fill cap but I was wondering if anyone had this issue?
If so what did you do to fix it?

not here. You might have to push it in more than you are. Take a look at the manual and see what it says. I wish I could help out more.

I did not but this was at a Walmart Gas station so maybe they have different pumps?

sounds like a bad purge valve,
but never heard of one on a new car or truck

You got a throwback. The original Maverick (Mustang Falcon) filler in the rear above the bumper would do that every time.

We have a gas station in town with a couple pumps that does exactly what you described on vehicles with easy fill. I would call the gas station and see if they have had any complaints about easy fill.

I would also contact FMC in the above post, it could be an issue with the evap system.

I haven't had anything this serious happen with my 2015 Mustang but that easy fill intake is, shall we say, quirky. Sometimes, just going full flow with the pump is enough to get it to trigger the shut off. I have the fewest problems when I wait for ten, not five, seconds and go at about three quarters speed. Sure, it takes longer to fill but I leave a whole lot less irritated.

Hybrid? I seem to remember something in the owner's manual about waiting a few seconds after opening the fuel door before pumping gas. Don't have our truck yet, but check your owner's manual if you have a hybrid. And send that dm to Ford.

I have put gas in my XLT 4 times and at 2 different stations. One did not have the suction gator on the nozel and one did. I insert and start pumping at the lowest setting that will lock the handle. When it clicks off, I hang up the hose.

Never a spilled drop or problem. Try a different station and a lower deliver setting as a test.

This was an issue with the nozzle not the truck.

Not sure what state, but this sounds like the nozzle and not your truck. Pressure might be too high on the pump and it's triggering the auto shutoff as soon as you started pumping, which might also be faster than your tank can actually fill with, causing the blowback.
