Now that I've had a chance to test drive the Tacoma on numerous occasions, I have this to say about it: If Toyota is going to bring us a future mini-truck, the interior (in terms of seating position) needs to be similar to that of the Maverick. The seating position of the Tacoma is what killed all the joy for me. Felt like I was riding with my knees up to my chin, and the 4 cylinder at 159hp needs some ass behind it like the Maverick (loving my EcoBoost at 250hp. It's been a nice change.) Considered the new Corolla Cross but feared the slow engine, and with lack of availability couldn't test drive. Starting to see a few Crosses on the road now, and while the ride height seems similar to that of the Maverick, it already looks "old" for being a 2022 model. Not digging the body style which is trying too hard to emulate the RAV4.
A pick up truck based on the upcoming Corolla Cross Hybrid would be interesting since it's estimated to have around 190-200 horsepower.

Now let's hope they can keep it affordable. I think the key point auto manufacturers are forgetting is that if they (read: The Government) wants the people to move toward hybrid or electric vehicles, these cars they're offering need to be affordable. Ford knocked it out of the park with a starting price of $19,995 for the Maverick hybrid but unfortunately couldn't keep up with demand.

My guess is they would want to make it on the Rav platform. Corolla cross not very big and they hybrid version not as good as Rav. Your better off going up to a Rav. Just my opinion.

HEY AUTOMAKERS ....... want to know what people want? TRY ASKING THEM! Do a frickin' survey or something. I'm sure if the automakers asked people if they wanted a small pickup truck like the Old Ranger or Chevy S-10, the answer would have been a resounding YES!!!. I've been telling co-workers for years: "Gee, I wish they made a small pickup like the Ranger again ...... I'd buy one. And I'm not even a "pick up guy". Seems especially the U.S. automakers. Know what else Americans actually want? A MIDSIZE STATION WAGON!! In Europe they call them Estates. You can get a Focus and a Fusion station wagon in Europe. I had a Dodge magnum but it was a money pit with the crappy Mercedes suspension parts I had to keep replacing. Oh well, looked cool though.

I still kick myself for getting rid of my Magnum.

I'll order one when it comes out. Most likely it'll beat my Maverick here.

I would trade in the Maverick for a Toyota in a heart beat. it will definitely be interesting to see what all of these companies come up with over the next 1-5 years

You could also ad T-R-D behind that, whoever put those letters together wasn't thinking.
If you need to buy a vowel, don’t get a “U”!

Im guessing they would base it off the helix and make it all EV IN 2026 As launch year. Tacoma are losing sales year to year

Give me my 1986 Toyota pickup with hybrid engine and a full back seat and I will gladly pay Toyota more for it. Don't even need AWD.
