Life was much simpler when we had mechanical fuel pumps.
Well, life may have been simpler back in those days, but it had little to do with fuel pumps. I've replaced two mechanical fuel pumps over the course of 54 years and zero electrical ones and most of those miles were on the electrical pumps. Of course they did have the benefit of modern technology.

Well, if the tank held over 14 gallons, it evidently was pumpable 😅. The the truth is that almost all fuel tanks hold more than advertised even if you stop at the first or second click during a fill-up. As for the plummeting fuel mileage, I believe it had more to do with the fact that the previous 100 miles consisted of the type of driving that was most advantageous to the hybrid city driving at or below 45 mph. Then I immediately went to driving at 75mph where it's virtually all ICE . I typically get 40+ under the first type of driving. I typically get about 32 at 75mph . So I should have anticipated it. I also noticed that DTE seems to drop more quickly for the last 20 miles for most vehicles I've owned. I think that's probably by design to make it drop to zero before it's actually empty. They try to anticipate idiot behavior like the kind I was guilty of
Very interesting I was seeing 32 mpg at 75 mph on My 2025 XLT AWD with the 2.0 EB. Now back and forth to work this tank is only 21 mpg, 8 miles each way 6 stop signs 1 stop light 40-50 mph speeds.

Come on guys...it's like some of you are brand new drivers on here (some may be... :p ).....but running the Hybrid or even the Eco to Zero miles until empty WILL NOT run you out of gas. You will always have 2-3 gallons of gas left in there. Probably......And I say probably enough for 99% of you on here to get to station in the next 20-30 miles...AT LEAST...very easily. Trust me. It's been tested and proven. God dammit....take it to edge a little bit sometimes.....LOL:rockon::rockon::rockon:

I take it to the edge on every tank. I’m a rebel grrr.

Although my edge is the half tank mark:)

That said - I’m lucky if I go to the gas station once a month.

If a car or truck can't go at least 10 miles after zero to empty, what good is it? 😂

Did the weather change? Did you change brands? Both can make a difference. I believe this is when companies change to winter grade fuel . That reduces fuel economy some. Cold weather reduces it further. And stop and go driving kills fuel economy on regular non-hybrid engines. But 6 stop signs in 8 miles doesn't seem like that many, but the combination of colder weather and the stop signs may have a significant effect. Also, the engine sometimes takes a while to recalibrate to the different fuel formulation. At any rate, it'll be interesting to see if this was just a one time anomaly or an actual pattern

I bought a 53 five window pickup once for $700 + $110 towing which wouldn't start from the guy who improperly replaced the fuel pump. His wife wanted it gone from driveway. After reinstalling his fuel pump with its lever properly positioned I flipped it for $2500. Have always regretted selling that ONE OWNER jewel.

Now I wanna make a video of me roaring past that “next gas 89 miles” sign, while towing at 70, the DTE showing 1 miles, turning to 0 right as Kenny Loggins belts out “Danger Zone!”

😯 These are common in my neck of the desert.
EV's 🤔Good luck finding a charger. Better stay close to your extension cord I.E the interstate.🤣 EV's not recommended very far off-road.

The Hybrid has ~ 1 gallon non pump able reserve tank beyond the 13.8. Not sure what good a non pumpable reserve is?
All fuel tanks have "seemingly unusable" aka "non pumpable" internal interior room, and for a good reason: Liquids expand when they warm up.

The space that can't easily (or not at all) be filled allows for a fuel tank that's topped up when cold to expand without causing problems to an expensive fuel evaporation capture system.

Ever notice that owner's manuals tell you not to try to keep adding gas once the nozzle clicks?
Hopefully another mystery is solved....

you spend exactly the same amount on gas per month whether you run it down to "10 miles remaining" or fill up when it's at half a tank.
Having been stopped on the highway due to snowstorms several times, often for several hours or even overnight, I try not to get below 1/4 tank at any time. It's a habit.

I'm all in on the 'don't run the level too low' group.
My wife used to run the level low in our 2003 explorer sport trac. The pump would get hot and not re-start in the summer here in Fl.
I replaced the pump, and it never happened again as long as we kept the level at least 1/4 tank.
Ditto !

Funny how that works isn’t it ????but trying to convince someone or change their mind is not gonna happen. “This is my little box and I’m gonna stay in it forever.” 😂😂😂

I regularly run my hybrid 20 to 30 miles BELOW "0 miles remaining", and refill 14.4 to 14.7 gallons.
Said the guy who likes replacing fuel pumps....
