Decided to run my scanner for the first time on my '26 just to see if there were any pending codes or anything (there wasn't) and as I yanked the OBD2 dongle for the scanner out and I thought I had yanked to hard and pulled the OBD2 connector off its clip or something. Looked closer and it turned out to be one of those annoying GPS trackers that some dealers install, cut two zip ties and it is out of there. I think this dealer tries to sell you their "connect" service or some crap to which I said NFW so I guess they didn't want to take the 2 mins it would take to disconnect it.

Dealer or insurance policy? What value it would be to dealer? Insurance company would value info.

Tracking the vehicle for repo when financed through the dealer.

I bet your battery will stay charged a lot longer now
We had a similar GPS tracker at the dealer & it would draw about 50ma on top of the cars system
Batteries were dead in a week on lot vehicles
Where do you look for this?

As mentioned earlier, I have a good friend who is a finance manager at at local dealer. They install those on vehicles that are financed. They get a kickback from the finance company (including their own) as a means to recover the vehicle in case of non payment. Some dealers hide them better than others LOL

The IMEI number indicates that it is a cellular device. Google shows:

IMEI number and get details about any IKON phone. IMEI is a 15-digit unique number used to identify a mobile device (e.g. IKON phone).

To check an Ikon Technologies GPS tracker IMEI, open the Ikon Connect app or log into the official Ikon Technologies Portal. You can verify active subscriptions, view tracking data, and manage or check your hardware status by inputting the IMEI printed on your physical device.

If you are looking to check smartphone or tablet IMEIs for the brand "IKON," you can utilize public lookup databases.

When I was looking at my buying a Mav, I visited Corwin Ford in Pasco, Washington. I looked at the window sticker and saw they were charging $800 for the "built in" GPS tracker so your car can be recovered if stolen. They called it Corwin Connect. Not sure why I'd pay for that when FordPass already allows me to track my vehicle for free. They seemed very hesitant about removing the tracker. I found a different dealer instead.

In a nut shell, yes.
This thread has prompted me to check my maverick. I found something similar but I don't want to remove anything unless I'm sure. My truck is financed, if that makes a difference.

Edit: Also had a thought. Couldn't I just make a makeshift faraday cage out of like aluminum foil and then cover that with some electrical tape?
