I live in an area that heavily salts the roads, so everything rusts out in no time. In an attempt to prolong the life of my truck I did a Fluid Film spray treatment and will do that each year before winter. Hoping it helps, I’ve seen some good results from it.

Question for the smarter folks here.
As I think we can probably agree Ford's tend to rust out from the inside pretty bad. Think of the old rangers and 150's. Total rust buckets.
I've been under my Maverick looking around. Looks like a lot of painted metal ready for some good winter rust out.
Has anyone looked into what the modern version of Ziebart undercoating is? Has anyone had their undercarriage coated or used a rattle can they've been happy with?
Had many over the years, zero rust. Guess maybe it depends where you live and how well you take care of your vehicles. If you live in the rust belt areas with salt and crap on the roads anything metal won’t have a good life

It is not so much the product as it is the installer.

OP, "old rangers and f150's" and their associated rust issues from the past have absolutely nothing to do with the maverick. You dont honestly think in the last 20 years that nothing has changed in construction, materials, etc do you? Your foundation to your thought process here is flawed.

that being said, If you live where there is salt, go get an oilspray done every year or two, not to stop the entire truck from magically rusting away to nothing, but to save ur suspension bolts etc. Theyre not painted, and often not stainless steel. they have no protection, the rest of ur vehicle is unlikely to "rust away" even if not oilsprayed, its the nuts and bolts you want to keep fresh for the long term. Alignments get alot more expensive in 5+ years when shit is seized everywhere.

I use fluid film - its only been 1 winter with calcium chloride on the roads so cant really comment on its effectiveness yet specific for my situation but there are a number of reviews on youtube that show the product works well if you re apply it every year

A better alternative is 'blaster' Surface Shield, however the spray can apparently sucks

Going spray mine with Cosmoline the first chance I get, and have six cans (3 black & 3 'clear') ready for the task. Just need a suitable day and several ours of time to pop off the various covers, and giver her two coats on anything underneath that could rust, then pop the shields back on.

Reminds me, I need to order a set of tyvek overalls, as I hear its really messy to spray. I was under my Subaru all the time painting any new rust with Rustoleum rust converter, and want to get a head start on preventing, as opposed to playing catch up.

For those who will spray there own I hope they give you something to spray inside the doors and also the kick panel which you have to drill a hole for access.

I have played with British sports cars for 50 years and they are the favorite of the hated tin worm. While my toy cars never see winter anymore a favorite in the British car industry was waxoyl. I used it on my maverick and just ordered some more for my wife's new Escape. I've seen guys use old motor oil and Vaseline with good results but that is really difficult to get in all the areas needed and is messy. Biggest thing is annual checkups regardless of what you decide to use.

Actually I used to be a Chevy guy for many years & I thought Fords had less rust. Anyway, I had my Maverick rust proofed then undercoated at Bullet of Green Bay WI.

FWIW, Many of the Fluid Film kits include a tube and nozzle to do just that. Personally I'm a fan of this stuff for areas that can't be more permanently coated, but using something epoxy based for example on the exposed areas tends to be the better long term bet (with proper prep, of course).

I just did it last weekend on my new mav. I used CRC 06026 and sprayed everywhere including behind the wheel wells. I already used 8 bottles and still need to spray door and tail gate. I estimate 10 bottles will give you a good coverage.

I did undercoat only on my 2004 Mountaineer and after 17 years in Michigan I could still get the bolts off the chassis and the frame and trailer hitch only had some surface rust.
