Still no tailgate assist, yuck! But you'll be happy to know that finally after 2.5 years.... recently I failed to fully latch it and then I closed the cap window. When I opened the cap window, the tailgate dropped right onto the side of my knee. Cue the Peter Griffin "ouch"! Smarted and a scrape but no real damage. I'm still too cheap for TA, lol...

But, now I will not be able to open a bottle when I need to......oh noes!!
I can open bottles and lower my tailgate by hand and NOT drop it.
It’s a man thing :’P

My issue with OP is that he has by and large only created threads (14) to push his YouTube content and has only 21 total comments (which includes those threads).

OP isn’t contributing to the created threads or being an active MTC member - it’s all for personal gain.

There have been plenty of members with channels - @pa-outdoorsman and @Shay are two that come to mind - who refer back to their content but are extremely active on MTC.

But to only use the forums to promote your channel and nothing else doesn’t rub me the right way.
100% agree. I think it's selfish and stupid. I don't waste time on these videos.

Two arms, one tailgate. Maverick tailgate does not slam.
Yes,only an idiot would let it slam without a thought.

This video shows the tailgate assist being installed with a ratchet and the following bits
  • T30
  • T50
  • 1/4"
  • 3/16"
You probably already have the last two, it's worth picking up the first two.

T30 and T50 bits are just a few bucks. Save your knuckles and your paint. The attempt at a T30/T50 wrench that comes with many of the tailgate assist offerings on Amazon is garbage and will slide out of the bolt.
Probably because they include the cheaper T30 or T50 Torx and not the actual Torx-Plus bits.
And you gotta get some cranking in there.

While it can be used in reverse - you miss a benefit.

AI Overview

Torx and Torx Plus screws have similar star-shaped heads, but Torx Plus offers improved performance. Torx Plus features a zero-degree drive angle, resulting in a larger contact area between the driver and screw, which minimizes cam-out and allows for higher torque transfer. Torx screws, on the other hand, have a 15-degree drive angle, which can lead to cam-out under high torque. While a Torx driver can be used on a Torx Plus screw, the reverse is not true; a Torx Plus driver will not properly engage with a standard Torx screw.

Sounds like a good mod, for those who want or need it.
I'm a dinosaur though, and gently lowering or raising a tailgate is just second nature.

I did not notice that about this OP. Thanks. I have seen a few on here that creates a thread with a link or video then never replies to questions about the post.
They want those posts on the video to keep the comments section active to improve the Youtube algorithm.

Seen a few videos where someone starts out (and the thumbnail/title suggest too) stating many other videos on this subject - here's why mine is different and not rehashing the same basic points.
I always appreciate those videos, but seems rarely done.

Like many, I'm getting pretty tired of 'clickbait'. Not just forums but newsfeeds, YouTube, etc. You can often tell fairly quickly when the first segment reiterates the title, then gets repeated multiple times through the piece for maximum bloat (and minimal real content) hoping to keep you there as long as possible. Network news channels repeat what's coming up before each commercial too, repeatedly, through the whole thing. That's why I get most of my news online, I can quickly move on without having to endure the incessant, reiterative chattering.

I bought one of these when I first bought my truck and never put it on. In the video he showed great detal in installing on the side of the truck. But I am conf7sed about the tailgate part. Do you have to fish thru a blind hole? Also the bottle opener is also a tiedown I have used those more than once.

Nope.
🚫 🎣 No Fishing involved.🚫
This is what you can replace your tie down with. Using the original two holes. It is one of the most robust tie downs out there. 👇👇👇
For those who choose to add one - if you would like to replace the tailgate tie down bracket that had to be removed to fit the assist strut, here's what I make and offer for sale:

Works well and clears the new strut and no issues with the cable. And made in the USA. I have a thread here in the For Sale forum.
