Look into Cummins fuel agnostic engine. Its a V10 heavy duty over the road truck engine with 75% less NOx emissions of a regular diesel and runs on Hydrogen. Natural gas, or propane. This is the future of the heavy truck industry, and toyota is actually working with honda on a hydrogen powered 5 liter V8.

Toyota has stated they will not go all electric since it does not make sense for every application. They unveiled a 1.5L turbo 3 cylinder toyota yaris at Tokyo auto show running on hydrogen. Engine made 250hp. They have also teamed up with Cummins, and pilot truck stops to work on building out a hydrogen fueling infrastructure. This is the stuff you dont hear about, since unfortunately it does not fit the narrative the gubmint is pushing.

And since they are pushing that narrative pretty hard, it begs the question why? Why are they pushing it? Because it has nothing to do with being nice to the environment. How many senators have investments in the electric car industry and stand to make or lose money on this? Theres lots of insider trading going on there, yet they dont ever see the inside of a jail cell like Martha Stewart did. How do these people end up with millions of dollars and multiple homes on a $250K per year senators salary? A whole lotta shady $hit that's how.

Go down the rabbit hole and see which of em are invested in what. It will shock you. They should not be able to hold investments while in public office IMHO. It allows K street lobbyists to buy them off.

I have seen how the aluminum body F150-250-350 are built with panel bond and steel rivets at a friends autobody shop I'm glad I got something that's spot welded steel instead. Aluminum is light, but dents easily, tears easily, and is prone to corrosion as well.

My point with this. New and improved isnt always better.

Actually it's not exactly a secret that Toyota hasn't been all in on EV's. And they just ousted their longtime president who was the reason they weren't and replaced him with someone who is actually an EV fan. As the only major car company not to embrace EV's Toyota is now facing being way behind the curve and having to play catch up in a field they essentially pioneered with the Prius.

As to hydrogen, I wish them luck. It might be a viable alternative for heavy trucks or commercial fleets but not for passenger cars. And I doubt they ever make it work in trucks either. It is incredibly difficult to contain safely. I just don't see the average driver safely filling up at a hydrogen station. And you do hear about it if you read the news. It's not a secret, it's just not a viable alternative fuel for the average person. Toyota's previous president was big on it, but he is shuffled off now and I bet Toyota gradually lets it fade away as they pivot to battery electric.

Hydrogen vehicles have no future, at least in America. Nobody is going to build the infrastructure.

Toyota would disagree with you on that.

Toyota's development of hydrogen vehicles is more biased towards their domestic market where Japan throws funding at them for it. In the US? Yeah, they probably get emission credits in California but it's pretty telling on the feasibility that they need to sell them at an up front loss plus free fueling for about the cost of the vehicle. Fueling which you might not be able to use for months at a time because the stations or their distributor getting disrupted is a regular occurrence.

I'm not sure why Toyota has been hung up on hydrogen for so long. But since they have now shuffled their long time (anti-EV) president off and replaced him that might change. Honda, who was an early proponent of hydrogen has publicly stated that they see no future in a hydrogen internal combustion engine. They have shifted to hydrogen fuel cell research to keep the Japanese government happy but clearly are moving towards battery EV's.

Hydrogen is simply not safe enough for consumer use. Fleet use with trained mechanics / technicians, maybe. Aircraft, trains and long haul trucking, maybe.

Toyota's hydrogen burning race car suffered a fuel leak and was destroyed by fire last week. That is with a dedicated team of engineers that work with it every day. Hydrogen is extremely difficult to contain and leaks can quickly become catastrophic.
