For $3.5k more would you get a new 25 over a used 23? (now a touchscreen HVAC control thread lol)

Which would you go with?

This is for a an XLT with not too much (4k tow).

Comparing a used 23 with around 15k miles versus a new 25 XLT. The spread is about $3.5k between the cost.

In this weird car market, used and new are not terribly far apart on price.

What do you think?

Brand new, with two more years of warranty, plus you might not know how it was maintained, plus you can get AWD if you wanted.
Along with other updates on the refreshed ‘25, including the larger infotainment screen and more standard safety features.
im others will add even more reasons shortly

The 25's have at least 50 things improved over the 23's. Yes, I owned a 23 before my 25.

And a major thing they took away in the '25 models - physical HVAC controls.

Ask the person with the '25 model who posted their screen went dark and they couldn't adjust the air conditioner, which controls he'd rather have.

I think it depends more on which model you prefer, since they are different in many areas.

Personally, I think the '25 went backwards in more areas than it went forwards. However, if you want an AWD hybrid, or a Lobo, you have no choice but to choose a '25. For any other model, I would take a 22-24. Just comes down to what you prioritize, and either is still the best value you will find for a PU.

Mechanically, there's no question the '25 is the better buy. Either hybrid or EB, there's is enough improved value to warrant more cost. Especially considering zero miles and full warranty. I don't like the new HVAC controls on the screen but, that pales compared to the pluses.

If you are financing, they might be "the same price" due to used car finance rates being closer to 10% and new car 5% and lower. Working out that a 30k vehicle costs $300 more per year that you finance for each percent higher interest. So with a 2 point spread between used and new rates and a 5 year term with little or nothing down it works out very close.

However, since the Maverick doesn't seem to get the best finance rates, around here they are 4.99% vs other modes getting 2.99, 1.99 and special 0% promos, then you might find it a little cheaper if you can get a home equity loan that's not much above prime, then it doesn't matter used or new, but I think you get your 3500 of extra value for sure.

Well, there's lots of variables here. So on the 23 do you know any history on it. Its maintenance records, ever any accidents, lemon law vehicle. Would you choose its color if you ordered new. Condition of the tires, condition of the exterior and interior. Is it 100% stock or does it have aftermarket items installed. Is it the power train the one you would order if ordering new.
As much as I dislike the front end of the new MY25's, I would lean to the MY25, unless you know some history and liked everything about the MY23

That only took 6 posts to get to the "I hate the new touchscreen" riff.

15,000 miles divided by $3500 is 23 CENTS per mile... deducted for use.
25% or more of the tires are gone..

The big screen up grade I think just the screen- which is adaptable to the 2023 is $800+ installation..
2023 had CV joint issues a number of recalls, and rear view camera lock up..

The LEMON LAW does not apply to used vehicles..

Like my Dad (Automotive Engineer at Cadillac- Detroit) always used to say, "If used, Your buying someone else's problems."

Increase of payment $90 over 4 years..or less if paying longer ---if not paying cash.

in 5 years resale will be a 5 year old car, not 8 year old maverick.

Get the Copilot 360 option..... worth every penny..

Financing NEW is lower interest than Financing USED..

Did you decide on new yet?

Buying used really was the smartest financial decision forever, pretty much - but that's changed. Now, instead of the first owner taking the big depreciation hit off the lot, often times it's the second owner that takes the biggest hit, that's a new feature of the car market that really shifts the financial equation in a big way. I would go for the 2025 10/10 times, but that's because I wanted the features available only on the 2025's.

If I was looking to save money and make the best financial choice, I'd be hunting for deals on new 2024s, you'll probably be able to get a brand new truck for around the same price as that used 2023 I bet.
