Would you please advise us the brand of key with the chip that works, and a link to it if you have one would be capital as well? Thanks...
I need to check when I am at my truck this evening, but I am 99% sure the one that programmed correctly was this one that has the Ford logo in the plastic.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07FW6TH13/

The one that works fine as a dumb key/"physically insert into the door lock" was this more generic one that did not have the Ford Logo in the plastic.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0BH984QWP/

You can see there is a price difference. Quite a difference since the cheaper listing is even a set of 2 keys.

I was an "early adopter" of trying these out, so you can also see that the Amazon reviews seem to agree with my memory of which works to start the truck and which doesn't. The cheap one has bad reviews and the more expensive one has good reviews.

Thank you very much. I just read through the 1st one and it does not work with "push button starts", which I have, so no go for me. Too bad - I hate how bulky the OEM Ford remote is. I was looking for something a little more pocket friendly.

You may not be able to leave the key in the truck if it has the same program as the Escape (I have Titanium). Leave it in, lock door, close. Beep Beep and door unlocks. Safety feature so you can't lock keys in the vehicle. Found a way around though. I have the pinpad so wrap the fob/keys in aluminum foil and put then under the floor in the rear of the Escape. Even then sometimes have to hide them deep.. LOL.

Hi - I'm new here. I have a '24 XLT Hybrid. Can a plain key, w/no fob, just unlock the door. I don't need it for starting. For kayaking and biking, I'd rather not have the fob exposed to getting wet or worse in a life vest or saddle bag. Don't need it for starting, as I'll leave the fob in the truck. If this is a yes, can the key be made anywhere?

An easy (and cheap)solution would be to keep the fob in a ziplock bag when biking/kayaking

Can't you just pull the key out of the fob and leave fob in truck and keep key in pocket? Or am I mistaken. I'm looking at mine right now I think that would work wouldn't it.

I wonder how they hold up to water?
My main reason for having the keypad, is when I take the dog's to our rual lake, hot springs or hiking especially in the spring or fall, there is a good chance we end up wet. I would rather leave my keys, wallet and if I bring it, my phone in the truck. I have a Faraday bag that holds all three. I can put the bag anywhere, including on a small hook I installed under the Hood, for just such occasions.
Stay safe and secure.

They do hold up pretty well to the elements.

The post below your quote has what looks like just a door key. If you don't need it to start the truck. If you need it to start the truck you'll need the transponder.

Thank you for the reply.
I have the keypad. I was just wondering for those who don't.
My fob is in the truck, when we go into the water or hiking. I don't like stuff in my pockets. I even leave my wallet in the truck most of the time.
I do not carry my phone alot of the time. That part aggravates my wife. She will call my phone and hear it ringing in the kitchen drawer. 🙄
I don't wear a watch or rings. When I'm on the road I get my coffee at 7-Eleven not Starbucks, Dutch bros. Etc.
Take care and keep your fob dry.

If you go cycling/kayaking with your mobile phone, then just use FordPass to unlock the vehicle.

I don't know if physical key will lock driver's door but electrical doors won't lock with fob inside cab unless it's in faraday cage. The key pad on door will since you are certifying you know combo.
Wrong on the doors won’t lock with key inside. Has happened a couple of times on our maverick. Many times on my transit connect. Went to dealer and ordered a “glove box key“, which which will only unlock the door for the transit.

But there is a problem with that most places I ride there is no reception or wifi. Apps are no good. Getting a away is the point sometimes.

There are variables in locking and unlocking. If you have two fobs and get out of truck with one fob leaving the other fob in the cab when you push the lock on the outside fob the inside fob becomes a "passive" key. (Think turned off preventing someone using it to steal your truck.). When truck is unlocked whether by unlock button or door handle pull with the outside fob the interior fob is turned back on. It may be possible that if 12v in truck is weak (like when the ceiling lights are not coming on the passive fob may not be reactivated). I have had my door handle not open the door because I grabbed the handle too for to the left. Your hand has to be behind the handle and within 1-1.25" of the right. Also be sure to not touch the ridges on the top of the right end of handle as that is where the lock-it sensor is located. That could cancel your unlocking. Also do not pull the handle to open the door too quickly wait 1/2 second to give fob time to be recognized. Also note that if fob has not moved within 2-3 minutes of you pulling handle the unlock will not work. If fob is blocked by change in pocket or purse door sensor will not work. Plus many other reasons.

Other trim levels have a switchblade key.
