Hi - I'm new here. I have a '24 XLT Hybrid. Can a plain key, w/no fob, just unlock the door. I don't need it for starting. For kayaking and biking, I'd rather not have the fob exposed to getting wet or worse in a life vest or saddle bag. Don't need it for starting, as I'll leave the fob in the truck. If this is a yes, can the key be made anywhere?

Thank you!

Yes, a "dumb" key will work just fine. I ended up in the situation you described by accident. I had someone cut me two extra keys, both supposedly with the built in security chip that "should" start the truck (once I programmed them). But the key blanks I had cut were two different brands/sources. One worked to both manually unlock the truck and start it (after programming it). The other only unlocks the truck (programming failed). So I have the "dumb" key hidden in case I lock myself out. If someone finds my hiding spot, they can get in and steal my loose change, but can't drive away with the truck. It does nothing for the ignition.

I have had a hard time getting a backup key made...4 locksmiths could not make the key since it was longer than their machine could cut. Once made/cut you can program it with your other key(s).

Anywhere that can cut that style of key can do it. Can even consider getting a keypad installed.
I have had the driver side keypad on other Ford's I have owned, and I have really missed it on the non Ford's I have owned.

I don't know if physical key will lock driver's door but electrical doors won't lock with fob inside cab unless it's in faraday cage. The key pad on door will since you are certifying you know combo.

You would refer to it as your valet key 🔑

That's just an example.

Fortunately the key would get you in the driver door and start it. You'd have to push unlock on the door to unlock the other doors.

Semi Dumb, still a transponder if you want it to start the truck.

I wonder how they hold up to water?
My main reason for having the keypad, is when I take the dog's to our rual lake, hot springs or hiking especially in the spring or fall, there is a good chance we end up wet. I would rather leave my keys, wallet and if I bring it, my phone in the truck. I have a Faraday bag that holds all three. I can put the bag anywhere, including on a small hook I installed under the Hood, for just such occasions.
Stay safe and secure.

Would you please advise us the brand of key with the chip that works, and a link to it if you have one would be capital as well? Thanks...
