for people who don’t have easy access to resources like a 3D printer would be better off searching for a trash can that fits and then getting someone to print off a FITS piece to attach it to.

I appreciate people’s input but if you think there’s a better way to do it then do it. I wanted a custom trash can that fit my design in my head with the trash bag stay and all. so that’s what i did.

not everyone can design a trash can in less than an hour and print it off with ease first try. so i understand why people might be reluctant to do this…for me..it was the better way to go.
I wasn’t pooing on your work. It is neat.

Seems to me you coulda printed a little tab to take 2 screws and then just screwed in a $5 trash can from ikea. Surely wouldn’t take as long, be more ship able, and allow a multitude of items to be screwed onto it.

edit, didn’t read all the other replies. DOH!

the weight would also be greatly reduced by making the walls thinner. so you could factor that in but this thing is solid and doesn’t rattle or make a peep when driving over bumps.
can you post an STL or a step file of just the fits slot part? Most people are using a poorly designed one that is rectangular. I’m designing one right now and wanna see how yours compares?

I wasn’t saying you were. just stating that if people want to go another route than by all means. but this post was just simply to give some people some ideas and to help others if they decide to do the same. i appreciate it

Not knowing anything about 3D printing or what you mean by “seeing the layers,” I think it looks pretty dang cool. I wouldn’t change a thing. I’d buy one if I found it on Amazon, for sure! Looks great, man!
I agree. Looks great

Can you share the dimensions/geometry for the FITS slot? I can't find it on any Ford site...

I think the more practical thing would be to print the FITS tab as a bracket that could be screwed to an off the shelf trash can or .......................
The OP's work is neat but 19 hours of work + material is a ton of work for the result.
I like your idea of getting a FITS tab bracket slapping it on a small waste can, then add a MTC sticker, boom done deal!! 🤣🤣.
The original design is good and I will be interested in see trash can 2.0 with the updates! Overall, it's great to start seeing some owner designed FITS ideas!

My cousin and I teamed up to design and create this trash can for my Maverick. It turned out really well! The only thing we both agreed we would change on the next one is to use a matte finish so that the layers do not show as much. Also, maybe make it less thick because it took quite a while to print! lol

In addition, I installed the soft roll-up cover for the bed which was super easy to do even for one person. thumbs up on that

I'm paying $26,000 for my Maverick so $235 for a 3D Printer is a bargain and you can never have enough cool toys. I'm also retired so I do have time and plan to make other items for the Maverick FITS slots.

I would also like the file if he is willing to share.
Plan on printing a handful of smaller items and watch plenty youtube tutorials. You def dont want to try an 18 hour print out of the gate. It will not end well. :ROFLMAO:

getting a budget printer is going to be a huge headache if you aren't proficient in the 3d world. Save yourself the pain and just get a PRUSA

Of course I plan to print a handful of smaller items and watch plenty youtube tutorials.

I know I have to start at the beginning but I can learn and do have the time being retired.

The Sovol SV01 Printer was used to produce the FITS Trash Can in this thread so it is capable. There were other ones cheaper but they had deficiencies compared to the Sovol SV01.

Ender 3 Pro $200 vs . Sovol SV01 $300 (best first 3D printer?)
