Well I live in Florida also, so this comes as NO SURPRISE to me. This state won't take a drivers license away from a senior even if they ran over 50 kids at a bus stop. Hate to say it but am I looking forward to getting out of this state. I grew up here but to many people and they can't drive. I am now putting my soap box away. Have a Maverick great day.

Your parking job is just as bad as his.
No, I was well/safely in the spot. The curb at the front of the spots was a bit rounded, so the inner points of the lines (near the curb) are narrower than the outer points.

Here's another pic. As you can see I was squarely parked along the line on the drivers side. The line on the passenger side flares out as the spot is wider at the entrance as it is at the curb. And if anyone wants to suggest "my parking was as bad as the other guys", well, I don't see the point in arguing with ya.

Glad there was no damage! I'm still baffled at the park job of the white SUV, which looks like it had a snowball effect into the guy who hit you.

Agreed, though I'm not 100% sure the SUV parked there before or after the Buick. The Buick may have thrown him off.

Regardless of the state or parking lot my vehicles (18 Edge, 21 Escape, 22 Maverick) all get the other end of the lot spots. The wife knows I'll drop off and pick her up because I'm parked no where close to the door. Using the curb and backing in so the right side is protected is the norm.

The far end of lots have a "don't park near me system" where offset is okay and side-by-side is a no-no.

Excellent. I have found 3 or 4 orange traffic cones around the truck work great as well. Yes, I have actually done that, true story, but it was a joke. :ROFLMAO:

What is up with all of these idiots who back into parking spots. I have seen them take much more time backing up into the spot and have had to wait for them to try two or three times to get it right. If they just pulled into the spot and backed out it would be less time for them (and us) and these problems (like your kiss) would not have happened.

Is this "backing into parking spots" some macho thing

What really peaves me is when they do the backing up into diagonal parking spots by driving the wrong way (against the one-way arrow) then when leaving they again go the wrong way. If you happen to be entering the correct way (with the arrow) and they start out they expect you to get out of their way.

I avoid parking anywhere near these idiots if I see them parked and usually try to find a parking spot with one side protected like an end spot.
Yikes. Way to hate on the safer option.

First, the drivers you're referring to likely struggle just as much to park pulling straight in.

Beyond that, backing into a spot is the safer option.

Backing into a spot, I have full visibility and control of the aisle, and am able to seamlessly pull right into the center of the spot (or off-center if there's a curb, to leave more space on the other side).

Pulling straight out of the spot, there's no straining, no craning of the neck to make sure no one is coming up the aisle. Just look straight ahead, and left and right.

The only idiots I see are the ones who see me sideways blocking the aisle and try to drive behind me - either in the aisle where there's no room, or worse, in the row of parking spots behind me. Oh and those hating on backing in. And the idiot who felt the need to back their truck up behind me after I pulled through for easy exit, in the back of a wide open parking lot, with their hitch inches from my hatch.

As the OP shows it is not safer if the one doing the backing in are idiots/bad drivers.

A lot of the examples of backed in parking I see in parking lots are not safe at all like when they pull out they are going the wrong way against traffic.

Another example: A big truck backs into parking spot and their big ass rear end covers the side walk behind them.
Yikes again.

What the OP shows is an oblivious "driver" who can't even see what's right in front of them. Anyone paying a modicum of attention would've seen clear as day in the backup cam that they just drove over the line. And when they got out, they would've seen it and said "what the hell did I just do? I have to fix that".

I would get your eyes checked if you really believe that the Red Maverick is parked straight in because it is not.

Yikes again. I would get your eyes checked if you really believe that's a big deal. It's not perfect but it's still got a decent margin from the lines on both sides. The spot also appears to be wider in the rear due to a curved parking lot.

It is always rough when that stuff happens, my fiancé thinks I am insane when I park far away yet first to gripe when someone parks super close to her. Not to mention it is good exercise.

I had someone rash up my fender on my GTI the other week when they pulled in next to me with their Expedition and left I was lucky my dash camera has a parking mode and caught the clip of them pulling in scraping my car and backing out and leaving. I was not fortunate to catch a plate but I was able to mostly buff it out and touch it up if you didn't know you would never see it. At least I knew what had happened cause I was scratching my head when I got a notification from the camera that it was set off.

Happy that it was a minimal issue and that things are good, still stinks that it happened.
Which dash cam do you have??

I have a Garmin 47 dash cam, it shoots in 1080p. They do make a more expensive 4k version but it is the size of a GoPro easy to install and I feel it works fairly well for the price and if you put the right size SD card in it can record for days before overwriting the old footage and is easy to pull if you need it. I have my fair share of moments saved over the past year.

Only reason I did not get a plate was the person left at an angle the cam was unable to see.

Younger drivers are far more accident prone than younger. Your insurance rate knows this.
Why are you angry that I stated 100% facts? And why do you think that just because 90 year olds suck at driving that you think I can't also hold the opinion young people do too? But please get angry more and defend old people parking like this.

My Dad is 91 still thinks he has a car even though he hasn't driven in 5 years. One of the hardest thing to do is to take their keys away. But in many cases it's the start of a long journey.
In all this I suggest each of us ask, "how will I feel if I reach a point where I have to give up that independence?"
I am 74 and will be 75 in July.
I now think about it and must say I don't like that thought!
Thankfully I am in very good health; only take cholesterol meds.
But I still think about it.
But then, there is my brother.
He will be 76 next month.
He is single and lives on his own.
2 years ago he voluntarily hung up the keys.
"Driving's not fun any more so I'm done"!
Hasn't driven since.

Looks like the poor parking job of that white SUV might have had something to do with it. Guy was likely so worried about hitting it, that he hit your Maverick.
This . Guy tried to park parallel to the vehicle on the other side. Glad the Mav was unscathed!

Just noticed in the pic showing the front curb the white suv was barely in his spot since you can see the line on the outside of his driver front tire. Bad parking? Yep. Didn't bother to be courteous and straighten out? NOPE!
BuddyS, you are within your lines.
The problem was the Buick driver backing in. My guess is the driver was simply not paying good enough attention to the passenger mirror while trying to avoid the white SUV, something people of all ages do. IF the Buick is new enough to have one, did the driver do what many of all ages do; rely almost only on the rear camera view?
I personally think these cameras cause people to no longer or seldom use the side mirrors and look around and has only added to the chance for a problem. They are NOT what you should ONLY use!
If no back up camera, I would say the daughter did not bother to help by looking in the passenger mirror. If she had I bet this would not have happened.
Anywho, my .02.
