I did my first oil change with old school timing under 600 miles. Back in 70s and 80s auto makers and mechanics recommended 500 miles for the first change. I will be changing between 3000 and 4000 intervals. The ecoboost is direct injection and turbo charged. Even on a newer engine, that extra pressure in the cylinders can allow fuel to pass the rings and cause oil dilution. That can cause excess wear on the turbo. Just my 2 cents. 🙂 My max interval will be 4000 miles.

I have 2 hybrid Mavericks. The 1st one we changed after doing a 1400 miles road trip and it had 3300 miles on it. Our 2nd Maverick we said "screw it" and waited until the vehicle said it needed it changed. So we'll see what happens. I ride motocross and when I buy a new bike I change the oil after an hour but those get ridden hard. I always thought it would be a better idea to change the factory oil out as soon as possible but I'm going to follow the manual on this one.

Are you sticking with that interval? What kind of oil are you using?
Keep in mind the recomended oil change interval can be different depending on your area. I too changed mine early and I agree with doing that for the first one.for the same reasons stated. I live in what is considered an "extreme" climate. I Am in Northern Alberta so my factory oil change recomendation is 8000 km or 5000 miles. If you are in a warmer climate the factory recomended oil change is 7500 to 10000 miles. A significant difference.

I am not mechanically educated. I know this has been discussed on other threads, but it seems to be all opinion. I have a 2024 Lariat Hybrid with almost 5K miles. (1,600 of that was a cross-country trip in April). The onboard monitor says I have 51% of life left. Ford says with normal(ish) driving I should change at 7,500-10,000 miles. Is there a scientific reason to do so sooner?
Also, I am out of Ford Points. Any reason not to go to a Jiffy Lube-type place when the time comes? I have used them in the past with other (non-Hybrid) cars without problem.
I have the 2.0 Ecoboost. I changed mine at 1000 miles not 10000 and I noticed the oil filter was as heavy as a brick

I just had my first oil change at 1 year and 1,200 miles. My understanding is that it’s not just about mileage but time as well.
I took it to my local auto shop and am confidant it was done properly. I even checked underneath before and after to be sure the cover was on as it should be!
I plan to have an oil change once a year at the same time as my annual inspection here in NY.
I would never bring any vehicle to Jiffy Lube or any such place but that is solely my personal opinion.

Best to you and your Mav 😊

June 12

First change at 3,300 miles (2024 XLT Hybrid) which was 1,500 highway miles probably almost all under gas power and 1,800 X .40% (electric)=approx 2,000 total miles on the gas engine. Used Ford filter (They get great reviews) and Valvoline full synthetic advanced ultimate etc, 0/20 oil. I used that product instead of the specific Valvoline hybrid oil as it has a greater zinc content for flat tappet motors. Will switch to a mobil one filter next change at 8,000 miles. I think I should have actually changed it earlier after seeing the tuna can factory filter which is hidden by the the cover under the motor. You need a torx 30 bit to get that cover off and a word of advice they put the factory filter on so tight I had to use a 3-jaw filter wrench to get it off and it squeezed the can so hard it put dents in it. Very pleased with this vehicle. Will not let the Ford techs do recalls or work on it.

Don't beat me up. I got my first oil change when the maintenance minder went off at 10k miles. I figured with my driving style that's why it was taking so long. They changed the oil and didn't say anything to me about problems or doing it sooner. I looked at the sticker for the next oil change and it said 14k miles. Guess that was the service center saying to me don't pay attention to the minder anymore.

First oil change at the dealer at 1250 miles. The second one is coming up and will be at 2500 miles. Also at the dealer. From here on out, it’ll be every 5000 miles. My thoughts are to get that early engine wear out of the oil and also have an excellent vehicle maintenance history when I go to eventually sell. Keep in mind I’m over the top OCD in everything!:ROFLMAO:

You will get MANY opinions here. Who should you believe ? I suggest looking on youtube of people who did follow the Oil Maintenance Minder and see there results. Most NOT good.

One thing about a place like jiffy lube. There are a bunch of screws holding plastic cover on underneath engine. I bet they don't put them all back and maybe break a bunch too. Easy to do. I wouldn't if I were you.

My hybrid's oil life monitor would not support extended intervals of 7500+. I typically change oil early, when it shows about 30% life remaining, WAY sooner than that.

A friend of mine recently sent me this link to a video by Lake Speed Jr. (His father was a Nascar Driver). Lake Jr worked for Joe Gibbs Racing and was their Oil engineer. His strong suggestion is for the first change on a new vehicle to be at 500 miles.. I think that's where I plan to start after watching this.. Mav's not quite to the 500mile mark yet..

I know this subject has been beat to death but I think it comes down to a few things to consider. If you have an Ecoboost (which yours is not) 1st oil change at 3000mi or sooner and every 3000mi thereafter with the correct oil if you do not want oil related problems in the future. Direct fuel injection and turbos are very hard on oil no need to find out the hard way. Since yours is a hybrid like mine, 1st oil change at 3000 mi or sooner and every 5-6000 mi after. I suggest following those if you plan to keep your truck long term. If are leasing or like to trade every two years, disregard and follow the manual or use the oil reminder. You can trust the guys in the white lab coats or the guys in the blue coveralls who see the results of extended oil changes everyday in their shops. A short search on youtube will verify that for all manufactures. I also would recommend using your Ford dealer to do your oil changes. I know it's usually not the most convenient sometimes but it's your best chance to get the job done correctly with the correct parts/oil.

Given the screaming about bad engines on this website, I was initially concerned about doing an early change on a motor that had not been broken in yet. I changed mine at 7500km (5000mi), and then again at 12000km (7500mi) because the dealer put the wrong 5W30 oil in it for the EcoBoost instead of the required 0W20. Both times the oil was clean and no metal in it. I did notice that the change to the correct oil drastically improved my mileage, going from 5.4L/100km (43mpg) to 4.4L/100km (53mpg) or 25% better almost instantly. I do not plan on any future changes until the oil life monitor tells me to do so, roughly once/year.
I did mine at 12500 when oil life was at 20%. That's the same kind of mileage that I've been getting.

I did mine at around 1700 miles
