I apologize up front if this is a stupid question. However, I'm not an expert in new car purchases and so spoke to my dealer about break in and oil change recommendations. He told me to use the oil life indicator to guide the oil changes. Should I be ignoring that - at least initially - and change the oil at an earlier interval? My current oil life indicates 70% with ~4500 miles. Should I be changing it early? (I fully agree on the full synthetic BTW!). Thank you for the guidance.
My dealer's suggestion: Get first oil change at 5,000 miles or within six months whichever happens first. Then follow the oil life meter and bring in when it hits 15%.

They use full synthetic.

However, feel free to do what you feel is right. Scientifically, synthetic oil running in an aluminum engine with modern filters allows more time between oil changes. However, some people are simply more conservative.

I generally ran 5,000 miles between changes with my last several vehicles and the engine was never the point of failure. I have had one total engine seize up in my life and that was my 20-year-old $20 push mower running five year old oil. So, that one was totally on me.

Just did our first oil change as well at 1300 miles, way overkill I know, a habit from previous vehicles. I agree that the under panel is a little bit of a pain, especially compared to the Prius which actually has a panel you can open. Even with a ratcheting screwdriver with a Torx bit, it wasn't that bad, agree that the oil plug was on really tight. I decided to go with Pennzoil Ultimate Platinum and Mobil1 filter this time, compared to our normal Mobil1 which I have used for 16 years. Honestly not sure which I'll stick with since any comparison or review seems to be all over the place depending on who you watch.

I read somewhere that Penzoil was the best. At least for to volatility of it. However any quality oil would be fine.

I figured if I only change oil every 10k miles(I drive about 2k miles per month), then I only need to remove those screws every 5 months. Not too bad. Just need to make sure don't lose them. Also I use a low speed cordless screwdriver so that I don't strip it.
You should never ever go more than 5k miles on a turbo charged engine. The fuel blows by the rings and dilutes the oil; not usually enough to change the level but enough to mess with the lubrication properties. Watch Ford Boss Me on YouTube.

Had local Ford dealer change mine at 1500. (hybrid). Paid way too much. It wasn't my selling dealer, and they have a Quick Lane. I feel good about it. THE END
