First oil change question

Don't forget the 15 freaking screws to remove the Splash panel? Biggest pain in the ass of the whole job.
Don't forget to run the engine some before you replace the splash panel. Otherwise you'll never see if it has a leak until it's leaked out a whole lot.

And the ability to strip those forever, and not be told they did it.
Until the wind catches it wrong because they didn't bother or know some locations more important than others for forward movement.
Then that rips off and catches something else.

Ya, the cheapest location where that extra time is required but for sure not desired.

And filters are at Walmart too - but open the box to look at it.
My 1st one was closed nicely but it caught my eye - and it was obvious someone took filter out and screwed it in - foam seal was dirty and dirty fingerprints on side.
Nothing in it - so guessing they tried one and it didn't fit exactly.
And the return crew at Walmart aren't known for doing good work around here at least, on many things below a certain price.
Then again, neither are Amazon employees frankly.

I'm 70 and I'm still doing it.

Changing my oil that is.
It's actually a piece of cake once you get that damn splash panel off.
Then again getting off the floor is not that much fun.

I'd like to put my 14 boot up the arise of the engineer who decided to put those Splash panels on.

It's actually a piece of cake once you get that damn panel off.
Then again getting off the floor is not that much fun.

You start by rolling from side to side

Pull the dipstick. If you can't see the stick because the oil is too dark, change it. If it has metal sparkles in it, change it. If it is a shade of milky white, change it. If it smells like cooked varnish, change it. If it smells like gasoline, change it. If there is no oil touching the stick, WTF? Some of these conditions require more scrutiny before an oil change.
I had a son-in-law once who bought a new Toyota truck and drove it 68,000 miles before it locked up. He never changed the oil and filter or added any either. The filter was white with red Japanese writing on it. His coworkers never let him live it down.
Service is more than mileage. Luck is also involved. Was the engine set up to torque and tolerance specifications? Does the guy performing the service know what he is doing? Over, under? Use common sense and good judgment. You take good care of the vehicle and with any luck at all, you can expect years of reliable service.

Hi everyone,
I have had my Maverick since early September. I see on the MyFord App that it says I don't need an oil change until about 7000 miles. Im already at just barely over 5000 miles and it says 56% oil.. So should I go all the way to 7000 or below 30% or what? Its XLT hybrid. I love my truck... Just want to take good care of it...

Sounds like you've got the green light. Let's make it complicated. Change it at 50% for the first and 25% moving forward.

I just have to say I love your signature, you drive someone elses car and you cant see out of the damn windshield because they have never cleaned that film off once in years

Other than a rental car, I try never to drive anybody else's car except my wife's. I end up cleaning her windshield.

That combined with forgetting to put everything you need on the floor around you.

At least there should be no moment of "why did I come down here?"
