Hey all,

anyone check the oil from the factory (2.0 EB) and find it an odd color? The oil looks orange to me. I wonder if FoMoCo uses a dye to check for leaks or some kind of break-in additive. I searched the forums and couldn't find any info. Thoughts?

*UPDATE* I called the service manager at the dealership and they confirmed that they've been seeing orange/red tinged oil from the factory. They said it's to be expected.

I've seen people post photos of it looking green......orange is a new one. You sure that isn't coolant?

The coolant in the reservoir is yellow, but not ruling it out. I almost want to oil change asap, but I don't want to jeopardize any "break-in" procedure Ford intends with whatever is in the block now.

Call the dealer. If you have foaming in your radiator or dipstick you have a serious problem.

Google image results for "engine oil color" seem to claim orange is acceptable......can't say I have ever seen it though. I would almost want to get under there and drain a small amount from the oil pan to see if it is truly orange when seen in a greater volume. In a small glass container for example.

I changed mine out at 800 miles after I got a little black soot on my finger from the exhaust. Castrol 5-30 synthetic high mileage frame filter. No issues. Got 3,100 miles on it now.

I noticed on my hybrid XLT LUX and thought it was due to the new led lights I installed in my garage but then thought "dang they color matched the oil to the plastic do-dads in my truck😂"!

Service manager at dealership confirmed orange/red tinted oil from factory is normal on Mav's. He wasn't sure what they put in it though. I'm going to hit it with UV light to see if it's dye for leak testing.

I can confirm that the bright green UV dye they use sometimes gives clean oil an orange cast.

New one. Dyes are used for leak test quality control at the factory and to help dealership technicians find gaskets out of place.

Like to see this orange Halloween juice go through a Blackstone Lab oil analysis. Spooky. If potassium shows up in there, above about 5 ppm, then that usually means coolant anti-freeze got in.

Curious why you chose high mileage oil for a very low mileage vehicle. Maybe it doesn't hurt anything. Isn't it meant to be used to expand and recondition old seals and stuff when they start to wear down.
