The 21-23 F-150 shifter works on our trucks. It requires some trimming of the console but the plug is the same and it drives like normal. Haven’t hooked up the paddle shifters but I assume the shifter buttons will work once wired. This is temporary until I make a better mount but it fits and works. I’m going to make a panel for the brake and drive modes in front of the center console.

No, it's not. More like OCD and resistance to change. Traits of the elderly.
I am older, and have no issues with the dial a shift as I call it. When I put it in reverse, it's just 2 clicks turned to the left of drive. I dont even look at it anymore.

I am older too...but easily adapt to change and tech....unlike the other GRANDPAS one finds about.

Maverick is like the VW Mk1 (Rabbit, Golf, Cabriolet, Jetta, Caddy, Scirocco) equivalent for trucks.
The Maverick is in no way equivalent to my 1981 MK1 pickup.

I drive them both weekly and when I get out of the VW and into the Maverick it is like the difference between the Mayflower and a cardinal cruise ship.

The rid, creature features and such are light years apart.

The VW has a turbo diesel and the hybrid has two power plants.

I believe they were referring to the interchangeability of the parts and the ease of "factory" modifications. A Mk1 you can literally throw a VAG parts catalog at it and almost everything would work or can be easily adapted to work. My chief mechanic has a Mk1 with a VR6 and a DSG, and everything is factory parts.

Same appears to be true of our C2-based Maverick. I bet there might even be some Volvo C30 or Mazda Protoge parts that will interchange.

OK, in that regard I would agree. I love the fact that I can purchase parts that go clear up to the MK2 model years for some items. In fact that turbo came off an 83 Jetta and just bolted right on the 1.6 liter engine. Well with other parts too.

So yeah, the C2 platform does fit that same mold.

You missed the intent of my posts.

the MK1 reference was to the interchangeability of parts with other models, even those from some of the Mk2, Mk3 and Mk4 models. As a younger man, I had a Mk1 Rabbit L Turbo Diesel 2dr Sunroof (83' super rare combination) with a Tilt slide moonroof from a Mk2 Scirroco, rear disc brakes and equalizer valve from a Mk3 Jetta GLS, 3 point rear setbelts sourced from a European Mk1 GTI, a Grill from a Caddy Diesel, Snowflakes from a Cabriolet, driver and passenger seat height adjusters from a Mk2 Jetta GLI, stabelizer bars from a Mk1 Westmoreland GTI, etc.... I was even working on fitting the interior from a Mk1 Jetta to replace the Rabbit GL parts I had originally sourced w/ it's fine simulated woodgrain on the dash and door panels.

The idea that folks are sourcing seats and steering wheels from a Focus, shifters and light switches from various F150s, Engines from Corsairs, Turbos from Rangers.... It's the parts interchangeability that I was referring to...

I was in no way actually comparing the two vehicles (MK1 Rabbit Pickup vs Maverick Pickup).

Ford Maverick F-150 Shifter Installed in Maverick! 20231216_223311

So I've got this kicking around... definitely gonna need to see some more details! Even just a tear down video of what you've already done would be amazingly helpful! 🤞

I don’t care what people say. I post stuff for the good of the group. Look at the Recaros, now everyone is doing it.

For what it’s worth my Maverick is a Ford Frankenstein lol.

Corsair motor
Ranger turbo
F150 shifter
Explorer ST cluster
Focus RS brakes
Focus ST seats and steering wheel

What’s next?
should've gotten the euro rs recaro shell seats, so is the corsair 2.3 or 2.0

I love the rotary shifter and cannot understand the hate. It takes up less room and allows for faster shifting. I have never shifted by mistake. Imo it's a total improvement.

With that said I do admire your work installing the f150 shifter. Variety is the spice of life
Same. I prefer the rotary but I do encourage people to do what makes them happy
