Good information. What is the procedure for programming the new key after getting it cut?
Insert first programmed key and turn ignition to on but do not start, count to 3 and remove key. Next insert second programmed key and turn to on for 3 seconds then remove key. Next insert new key and turn to on and wait until horn beeps then it's all set....

For those with push button start take the pad out of the center console and lay the fob's in the location indicated.

Thanks for response. So you set your key to them? No frets about the mail being mishandled and never getting to them?

No you don't have to send key. Take 2 clear photos of key and send pictures to them. They laser cut from images. I don't understand how they do it but I can guarantee it works

FYI - I thought I was being smart by ordering a "blank" Maverick key on Amazon. Took it to an Ace Hardware store that cuts keys but they refused to cut keys that you did not buy from them. Maybe just my area but 3 other locksmith shops I've been to can not cut the Maverick key since it is longer than their key cutting machine...and requires a special key cutting machine...still looking for someone to cut the key. For those not familiar with the Manual...you have to have the two ORIGINAL keys issued at purchase in order to program a new key...it is smart to have that 3rd backup key. My dealer wanted $120 for a third key.
I got two originals with my 23 maverick. Why wouldn't a copy that the OP received constitute as an original? Guess mavericks detects the third copy as non original.

You said $125 for a third key. What if a customer only had 1 original and needed a copy. What could a dealer do for a customer?

Always nicer to have 3, since it means if you keep that third in the house 24/7/365, and the other two aren't somehow lost at the same time, you can buy another blank and program it yourself (since you still have 2 functional keys). In my opinion, having 3 keys is crucial if you want to avoid costly dealership replacements in the future.

I am the only one who will be driving my truck, but you better believe I will have 3 keys functional at any one time. I'll only ever use one of them, but the other two will ensure I can always replace lost keys with a simple Amazon or Ebay order.
Thank you for your responses and the past also. Since you said you only use one of them, meaning keys. Does that imply that you would use the third key as your daily key, since you need the two originals to make a third key in case that you lost the key you will use daily?

Did you have a third make yet? If so, did you get it made as same place as the OP had his made at? I have tried in the past to get my key cut for another car and the key places wouldn't do it because I didn't buy the key from them.

Every Maverick is supposed to come with 2 original keys. You have to have both of those keys to make a copy (3rd key)....so if you loose one key or buy a used truck with only one key, the dealer charge thru the nose to get that 2nd and 3rd key. I'll probably keep the maverick 7-to 10 yrs and knowing me I might loose one of the keys in that time period.

If you only have one key you are at the mercy of a Ford Dealership. Bought an almost new motorcycle last month ($14,000) and only got one key. MC Dealer charged me $160 for that one backup key because it has a chip in the fob, and it has to be programmed with the VIN number.

I have 4 keys made for my Mav.

2 originals where the metal cut key is inside the flip open fob. The ones that came with my truck. One of those I use daily. The other stays inside my house. Then I have 2 more, that look like an "old school" key. Like this....

Ford Maverick Extra key and fob 5940815web_800x1044

One of those "old school" keys refused to program, so is a "dumb" key that will unlock the door, but will not start the engine. The other programmed correctly and will both open the door as well as start the engine.

I have the "dumb" one hidden on the outside of my truck somewhere sneaky. Then I have the "smart" one hidden inside my truck somewhere even more sneaky. If someone finds the "dumb" one, they can get into my truck but cant start it. They will never find the "smart" one I have hidden inside. Unless they tear apart my truck. But if I am ever locked out, I can easily get to both the "dumb" and "smart" spare keys.

Good info. Who cut your keys, local lock smith? What price did you pay for the cuts?

@Redneck Garage cut them for me. Mailed him a postage paid return envelope (a flat rate postage paid envelope folded inside another flat rate postage paid envelope), one of my original fobs, the blanks, and some unrequested cash since he was doing me a favor. He may or may not be able to still offer that to people.

For those looking to have a extra key and fob as a backup. I purchased 2 keys with just a picture I sent them. I program Both keys and they work just as good as the ford oem. So 2 backup keys for $70.
?
Does anybody know if these will work if your truck has a 4 button fob? I don't think I am ever going to use the remote start from fob, but don't want to buy a key with an incompatible chip.
