Extra key and fob

I made the mistake of buying the blank Maverick key off Amazon and 4 different locksmith shops would not cut the key..Their reason (and I don't blame them)....is if they screwed up the key or it did not work they would not want to pay what I paid for it on Amazon.

Does anyone know why it takes two "admin" keys to program a third? The dealer that sold me the truck said it only had one key. The truck had 145 miles on it. Hard to believe a guy who never drove it, lost a key. I think they were hot to sell me a second key at $550.

Yes, you need two keys to easily/simply add a third or fourth. There are ways to clear out ALL keys and start from scratch (where you would then need to program in 2 keys from scratch), but it is best done by the dealer if you decide to use that nuclear route.

Learned my lesson on vehicle purchases (I know better but forgot).
DON'T buy a vehicle (ie: motorcycle) without:

2 keys.
1 Owner's manual on paper.

After signing contract and handing over a check, the sales rep handed me one key, the said you can get a manual off the internet. To find out a week later a second key was $170.

You're in the driver's seat until check changes hands.

Rookie error. 72 yrs old and this is the first (virtually) new car I have ever owned. Really questioning breaking my streak.

If selling divorcing spouse-to-be's truck? Second key may not be available.

I sent a photo and a very few days later received the key. The key works very well although the button to sound the alarm does seem to get triggered more easily than the OEM key.
I am very pleased!

The panic button on mine seems more sensitive than the factory remote also. I'm going to trim down the rubber "nub" inside that pushes on the microswitch on the circuit board.

Just want to say thanks to the OP for finding and posting about this. I ordered one last Sunday. It shipped the same day and I received it on Thursday. The key fit into the door and ignition as good as the OEM keys. Programmed in seconds and works perfectly. Can't beat it for under $40. I wish they sold a programmable "fobless" steel key that could be cut from a photo.

Got the 2 keys, one worked perfectly, the other would not even slide in the lock. Contacted the seller by email (outside of Amazon) and they immediately responded to my email asking for a new picture of the key and said they will send a new key.

I will update on the results.

They sent a new key and it worked perfectly. Good to know this company will stand behind their keys.
Very happy to have spare keys at a reasonable cost.

Every Maverick owner should order a spare, It is too easy to loose a key, and with one key only, you can no longer program your own key. I think a spare key is a necessity.

I ordered one of these from the same vendor at your suggestion @Mrjones .

The key I received didn't insert even 1/2 way into the door lock or ignition cylinders. I emailed the seller, and promptly was instructed to keep the first key, and they would mail a replacement one. They didn't request another picture of my key. 6 days later I received the second key and it worked and programmed perfectly. I'll keep the first one they sent with the battery removed as a backup remote in case one goes bad.

The whole process from ordering to receiving the second operational key was about 12 days. Their customer service was quick to respond and to ship the second key, so I recommend this vendor.

Mine is a 23. Does that mean I am out of luck?
